Have you ever quit a job before? How did it go? -Christine

Most of the time, officially quitting merely annoys the bosses. If I don't want a confrontation, I just stop going.

It's uncanny how I lately I've been planning my escape to freedom from a job I hate, then this video pops up lol! I have to say, as I was discussing with a coworker how dissatisfied we are, I realize I do "not mind" working there- the problem we both have is how the business is run. When you have a company that micromanages everything, from how to engage with clients the way they want you to (when you know it doesn't work) to what you should wear, and add to that a manager who plays favorites and gaslights you, it makes for an unecessarily stressful working environment. Maybe that would be a good topic for a video- how to deal with being micromanaged. For now I'll stay until I find better work, or hopefully win the lotto. Thank you for a clear, informative video!

Thank you so much! I just put in my first two weeks notice and this video and accompanying article really helped me. My boss is typically quick to anger or say snide comments but luckily she didn't rip into me! If you have a regular check-in I'd suggest saying your peace there instead of creating an additional meeting, if possible. Best of luck to everyone! Ps. Listening to Break My Soul afterwards is therapeutic

Love the fresh honest creative presentation of an old tale. Perspectives from a real manager and you. A mock resignation but it still gives you butterflies. It's like letting go of a part of yourself. You spent months job searching, submitted 100 resumes and endured 4 rounds of an interview marathon for this position. Now you want to walk away.

I never had a bad experience quitting.... Provide proper notice, reasoning for the change etc. Everyone always said it's a loss for the company, but they congratulate me for the opportunity. (Disclaimer: I never quit because I didn't like a company/manager) Also: You NEVER owe anything to a company or manager. You get paid for providing a service to the company, nothing more

Things must have changed since I lived there in the 1990s. I did have 3 jobs during the 4 1/2 years during that period, where I was given notice. As I recall, if you made it past 90 days, they had to give notice and so on. Most jobs I had, they fired me around day 80-85. The first time I passed the 90 days on a job was when they constantly checked my output during the notice period, which prompted me to quit. The Arbeitsamt didn't appreciate the actions of the company when I told them why I quit on that occasion.

Did these steps not long ago and those were actually helpful. Thanks for summarize these in a really attractive and informative way. The key, in my opinion is to be honest (optional, of course, it's personal) and sincere with whatever you say or do in these kinda tough times. That would really help the quitting process. Good luck!

Great video and thanks for sharing. I would also recommend that you have all of your affairs wrapped up and ready to step immediately out of the office/manufacturing plant. Often times, employers will not handle this well and expect you to leave immediately so you don't damage the team, encourage others to quit or they just don't want to look at you anymore :-) If that were to happen and you didn't have your personal reminders and contacts off of you laptop / phone, you will end up hurting yourself in the short term. Keep the great videos coming.
@89DerChristian3 жыл бұрын
Wow, I never experienced it like that. In Germany we usually have to provide 3 months notice (but employers have to do the same, so you don't sit on the street from one day to another...). Led to some weird situations though, where managers asked me to not mention it to the team until shortly before leaving.

I quit too, a few years ago. A very well paying corporate job, but I HATED working for a boss and all I wanted was FREEDOM. Though I DID quit, I NEVER took the leap and I always advise people not to leap but have a clear plan in place and transition. So much better to KEEP money and not be in financial stress figuring out what to do next!

I've either quit or been fired from almost every civilian job I've ever had. Some of them, I got along well with the manager and told them I was quitting. In 2 or 3 cases, the jobs ended because the contract expired. In most cases, neither I nor my boss gave any notice. In most cases, I just stopped going to work. Once, my bosses called me repeatedly to come to work, find out if I was sick, etc. In spite of being constantly belittled nagged at work. Most bosses figure it out pretty.fast or they officially fire you for not coming to work. If management ever actually abided by their own notice rules, I'd probably do the same, but that hasn't been my experience. I've been given notice on 3 occasions and in 1 of those, I quit going to work during the notice period. I've given notice on several occasions, early in my working life, but I was fired for doing so almost every time. And in an "at will" state, the second you're fired, the job is over. The result of these experiences is that, my method of quitting is to just not go to work.

Any advice for someone who's required to give a whole month's notice (as per contract) and with a boss who has a tendency to guilt trip and how to make it through that notice period? I work in healthcare/retail where there's a particularly severe shortage of those practicing my profession at the moment and I've already tried to address issues like chronic understaffing of support staff and pay (increased but not to the point where it's worth the stress)

Have others been fired during the notice period? I was given notice once, about 2 weeks before the job was supposed to end, but every time I finished some piece of work, a flunky from the office would check it. So I just stopped going to work.

I have been trying to create a side hustle and educate myself at the end of the day to quite my job though by then I am often exhausted from a 14 hour day at the job I don’t like. I got this job where an employment specialists picked one for me since I was not good for looking for jobs online and definitely was not what I wanted to grow from. Since originally I had a plan laid out that I have been writing down for 8 years to start a business.

I’m curious, about a situation, where the employee has reasons to quit (various: personal, philosophical, a structural ceiling preventing further growth, potential external opportunities), and how to gracefully leave. The current three year contract is coming to an end, there was a verbal expression of interest in staying about two months earlier to accept an extension, but a new contract has not been offered as yet, and no further communication/discussion from the company. At what point does the lack of communication, nor contract being put on the table, make a decided departure more the responsibility of the company?
@grazynawolska81603 жыл бұрын
I've been in this position. I got a 6 month extention and when that extention was coming to an end I waited for them to say something. It was implied I'd be extended again. So I waited till about 3 weeks from my end and asked if im going to be extended because if not I need to "plan for my future". Upon reminder they extended me another 6 months. This bought me time to look for a permanent job. If the job doesn't consider you vital enough to have a game plan for you that is clearly communicated, it's time to move on. If you are close to the end approach the subject like I did, but definitely start looking for permanent or better now.
