Giselle Gomez once every two hours should be fine. You can feed it up to 1ml per 10g of weight each day. For example, a bunny that weighs 130g has to be fed with about 12-13 ml each day, stretched over the times you feed it

I was astonished to see on a recent documentary that the buck waits beside the doe until she has finished giving birth to immediately impregnate her again, then she leaves these tiny, helpless infants warmly cocooned in a nest of her fur and only returns to give them milk for about three minutes a day! Yet in the wild they all survive .. amazing! Fabulous documentary with secret access right into the burrow, I loved it!

If they are doing good so far on PetAg(goats milk esbilac), continue using it :) If they get diarrhea, that is a bad sign! Then you for sure want to use fresh goats milk. One tip that I think works miracles is warm a little chamomile tea and give after every feeding, just a little to them. It helps the tummy from bloating and causing stress ;) Also hydrates. Wont harm the babies at all! I sure wish you the best of luck and hope to hear that your little ones survive :) Crossing my fingers ;)

Great info. My cat brought in a nest of bunnies. Unfortunately they were more than just cold. They are very delicate. She carried them in like she would have carried her own kittens (my realizing what she was doing on the last one in), but the Vet said having picked them up by the back of the neck was too much for their fragile little bodies. I was hoping they'd make it, as she was trying to mother them, had them all up against her belly, and I'd put a towel over them to try and keep the heat in. She'd never had kittens and I was surprised at her behavior. Was noticeably upset when I took them away from her. Next time I'll know what to do. Thanks, *Gazelle.

As for the domestic comment, I have to disagree on the 2 feedings a day. I fed my baby bunnies at least 6 times and then it became less and less feedings as they grew. It takes a lot of time and devotion to hand raising a baby bunny especially more than one. I must of done something correct if my babies made it :)

A heating pad works best and does not cost much. I bought mine for $10. You can try to line a box with cloth and keep them in a nice part of your home, where they wont get a draft on them. As long as they stay out of the cold, they should be fine.

hey :) i have interest in bunnies. can you please tell me,does bunnies turn wild as they grow older ? or they still stay friendly ,some kind like dogs ? how much does a baby bunny cost ? does bunnies reconize their owners ?
@majors80
@majors80 10 жыл бұрын
Krishnan Vimala Domesticated rabbits don't turn wild unless they are being abused or inbred to much. They can become aggressive if they have bad bloodlines or are treated wrong. Rabbits will stay friendly if treated right and you pay attention to them. As for cost, that varies on breed and age. Yes, baby rabbits can grow attached to their owners, just like any animal ;o)

My heart goes out to you. I raise American Chinchilla's, I saw the doe eat one of the babies but she raised the litter (10) O.K. In another case the doe had one large kit that I had to keep warm for one day because she had 3 the next day. I could not put one kit in with the mother because it could not keep warm. I also heard that you could put a tiny bit of rabbit poo in the milk to help with the gut flora. Good Luck!

Glory, I didn't know that - which accounts for why, when I briefly kept a couple of rabbits, one big black buck and a small grey doe, I twice found dead kits in their cage in the morning, and thought it was because she was too small for him. I had him neutered after that and they lived happily together until one day he died. She waited just long enough for me to find him, then scaled the wire of their outside pen and rushed off into the wild. I loved her for that, I do have to say.

I have watched parts 1 - 3. My doe was taken by a fox and I am trying to raise the four surviving babies. I found your video very informant. Only 1 question though - how often do you clean the nest that I took from the hutch and put in the box with them?
@majors80
@majors80 11 жыл бұрын
I had put a small towel on the bottom of the box and then mommas fur(that she pulled to make the nest) on top of them. When they were about 1 weeks old I replaced a new towel into the box. Then when they turned 2 weeks I replaced it again. The 3rd week, they went into a larger box with of course another towel under. I also used the bathtub(put a towel as a bed in the tub) as they became more active. I sure wish you lots of luck and hope everything goes good for you and the little ones. Sorry you lost your momma rabbit, just terrible.

One of the kits disappeared but I watched the other grow almost every day for 5 months. I still think it spends the evening in my backyard although I can't be sure it's the same one. Great job in raising the body temperature! I have used goats milk in raising my baby bunnies and I feed morning & night. It lead to at least 6 feedings all together and also depended on who would eat and who did not eat at the feeding time. I don't know how well the kitten formula works. I was scared to use it because It can cause diarrhea. I also used a warm chamomile tea after each feeding to help with bloating or discomfort. Let me know if it works, kitten formula?

@majors80
@majors80 11 жыл бұрын
I would not recommend using cows milk. Goat's milk is easy to digest and great for lactose intolerant people, so it is very easy on the tummy of a small baby bunny. The chamomile tea after every feeding(just a little) helps with any bloating that may happen when feeding a baby bunny milk that is not from a rabbit. Cow's milk is just to strong for the bunnies tummies. :) Hope that helps and thanks for commenting...

I hope you still check your comments on this. My 2 chihuahuas pulled 3 bunnies out of their nest. Their eyes are still shut, they are grey, and their ears are not standing up yet but they look older than the bunnies in this video. I found the nest, put them back and put a long baby-gate around it with cracks for the Mommy to come back. I left flour on the ground in hopes that I see that Mommy came back through the night. The wild animal center in our area seems uninterested in taking them, and told me to put them back. They said if Mom doesn't come back to do some research on who would be willing to take them. If Mom doesn't come back, I will try my best to care for them. I think there are 4 or 5 total. Where can I get goats milk? Would Petsmart have it? I heard they have a bottle for bunnies.
@majors80
@majors80 10 жыл бұрын
Hi, lets hope that momma will return to her nest. Usually she will only visit once or maybe twice. The flour is a great idea to see if she returns. Hope she does. You did the right thing by finding the nest and putting them back into it. The wild animal center knows that the survival rate is pretty low on raising baby bunnies by hand. They must not want to really be bothered with it. If it comes to you having to care for them, it is not easy and can be heartbreaking when you lose them. All you can do is try and maybe you will have a miracle happen as well ;). I am crossing my fingers that everything goes good. Also, goats milk can be bought from a farm or ranch. Check with feed stores or health stores. Where I live its not hard to find but in other places it can be difficult to get your hands on. Also, if you raise them by hand give them after every feeding some chamomile tea or parsley tea. It will help with bloating. You also have to be very careful to not over feed them. It can lead to bloating and death. I am sure that momma will return and check in.

Thank you for replying! I was panicked earlier. I don't want any babies dying on my watch;) I just took a flashlight outside and it looks like Mama's been back!! Great news! And my dogs can't get through the fence I put up. So I hope they all make it, then stop having babies in my yard! Last year we lost 3 because of my bigger dog catching them, then we later lost her to cancer. Luckily my 2 chihuahuas were gentle with them. My 13 year old was bringing me a "present" and my 1 year old was licking and playing with them and just carrying them around;) Thanks a lot!

I have heard bad things about cows milk so maybe try the buffalo milk and see what happens.I really prefer fresh goats milk.Its how I raised my baby bunnies and also the chamomile tea after every feeding helped out a lot as well.Goats milk is very easy on the tummy and also is great for lactose intolerant people, so it works best for bunnies.You can always do some research online and see is the buffalo milk is a good choice or just try it. Cows milk tends to cause diarrhea and can lead to death.

its best to put them into the milk in a bowl. yeah its a tad messy but reduces the chances of milk getting into their tiny lungs

I'm sorry about the dead baby bunnies but your doing the right thing by trying to save this one. I got rabbits a while back and was told I had two females and one male (since I didn't know how to sex them myself yet) and one of my female rabbits ended up being a male. Thank goodness my rabbits have individual cages since one was mistaken for a female but I raise rabbits to eat so I was lucky to have them in separate cages I guess since I don't want accidental litters. It's common to sex a rabbit wrong and you didn't know so don't let people make you feel bad. Your doing what you can!

Mother rabbits do not sit with their babies to keep them warm, and visit them just twice a day for feeding. So it is not uncommon to find litters of wild rabbits that appear to have been abandoned. best to leave them alone and let the mum come back when she thinks its safe. Also if your domestic mother rabbit dies and you are left to hand raise, twice a day feeding (eg every 12 hours) is what the baby's little bodies are set up for.

Major Lynn - I had a devastating time last week as my momma rabbit didn't make it. I am so heartbroken she is gone (she was the sweetest pet ever) & I think it was my fault she died (she was about 2 years old). She died after giving birth and her babies didn't get to feed. So I am now relying on goat's milk & doing bottle feeds every 6 hours. It is very difficult as they don't eat much & look really thin. I am so freaked out as I cannot let her down and I need to keep them alive. I feel so exasperated. We are on Day 6. Your videos have been helpful but I need to ask more questions (sent you an email last week but not sure if you received it). The goat's milk I am feeding is homogenized & pasteurised. Do you have any tips on how to ensure the babies are getting the right good bacteria? Or is feeding just goat's milk enough? I really hope to hear from you soon. Thanks in advance.

kk k u should probably use either kitten or puppy substitute milk. cow milk is dairy which is toxic to rabbits

The best kind of milk is puppy milk, I got mine in a can and it last about 6weeks for a baby bunny for like 5 it would last about a week. But Puppy milk is the best for them.

Using a syringe or eyedropper is better for especially young baby rabbits (about up until their eyes open) because it gives you more control over how fast they take in the milk. When they're very little like this one, they're just too spastic, and not in control of their own bodies, so they'll try to drink too fast. The mother rabbit's nipple doesn't release milk fast enough for this to be a problem, and similarly using a syringe or eye dropper lets you control how fast the milk comes out, to a great degree. Using a bottle and nipple gives the kit all the control, so they naturally drink too fast, which is what causes the overflow of milk and potential for breathing it into their lungs, which if it causes an infection, will likely kill them.

Its a risk to take! I had no choice but to raise mine because i lost the momma. My momma did feed them the first 3 days but they still had seemed very thin to me. That is why i pobably lost 2 of my babies cause i was to late.At least i still have 3 that are still alive and doing great. Use your judgment in this and i am telling you that it is not easy raising them and that it takes a lot of effort. Also very important for them to get the colostrum from momma if they have any chance of survival.

A wild rabbit gave birth to a couple of kits in the middle of my lawn a couple of years back, and then shot off into the bushes, leaving them behind. I wish I'd had access to this video then; I tried so hard to rear them, but they both died on me after a few days ... and I was heartbroken!

Definitely do! But I hope it don't happen to you again. I am making sure that I breed several rabbits at the same time, so I don't have to raise them again. I can just put them into a litter if anything happens to a momma again. I made a mistake last time by breeding rabbits at different dates and of course the litter I ended up having to raise was the youngest. I did not trust putting them in with the older babies. The older ones where a lot bigger.

Major Lynn, I have 4 new born WILD rabbits that don't seem to have a mom. My dog had found the nest in our yard and unfortunately ate one of the rabbits. My mom relocated the nest right outside our yard (only a few feet away) and I'm not sure that the mother rabbit has come back to her kits or not. It has been 3 days since we moved them and they are still alive. We moved them to where they can be in the shade and in the sun, along with the mother's fur. This morning I found one of the kits outside the nest, a couple feet away and it doesn't seem to be moving. I put it pack in the nest (with gloves on) under the shade incase it was the heat that got to it. What do I do? Do I send them to an animal clinic or try to help them as you did in this video? In high school I learned how to breed my own rabbit and everything so I have experience with rabbits but I'm not sure what to do in this situation.

Do you know about how old they are? All I can tell you is keep trying to feed them. Also, always keep some hay in with them because they do munch on that here and there even when they are 2 weeks old. Hang in there and keep trying is all you can really do. Try a syringe, bottles, sponge, washcloth and see if anyone of those work. If you use a syringe or bottle be sure you feed very slow so you don't drowned them. Good luck ;)

I only found this channel now when I was searching "How to teach baby bunny to eat pellets". Well, while I'm at it I wanna share my experience with my bunny. I have gone through the same thing, too late to know that the mother rabbit isn't producing enough milk and was kicking, stepping and even peeing on them (a sign that she was abandoning them) two died and we handfeed the three babies we got to rescue after finding out she was abandoning them, but they had severe diarrhea even if we follow what the vet instructed us, may I ask if your baby bunnies went through the same thing? Did they all survive?. on her first set of kits only one survive. the second litters (I realized she was carrying them on their womb even if she was pregnant on her first) I was a unknowledgeable and beginner bunny owner so it was too late to found out that she was pregnant at the same time. we have removed her from my male bunny though after finding out that she was pregnant with her first litters , the second litters all died since they are very weak. If I decided to have another bunny babies (maybe after two years since I am traumatized, I have removed my male and female bunny in different xpen) can you advise me how to prevent them from getting diarrhea and the others who died without knowing why? Hope you can still respond in my message even though it has been years, 🙏 thank you so much
