Raising a sprinkler head is easy! You can use sprinkler risers, PVC connectors, or just dig them up and reposition them. Lawn sprinkler repair isn't difficult, don't be afraid to fix a sprinkler head yourself.

You are giving me hope. I need to raise almost every head in my irrigation systems. (lawn was a joke when it was installed last spring and has swallowed the sprinklers). Have you ever had issues with dirt falling in with your no dig method? That would speed up things up.

If the dirt is moist not dry or muddy it will stay put if you pack it around the sprinkler.

Thanks for this video it is very helpful for me to bring mine up. They were installed before the grass and I don't think they accounted for the height of the grass. So I will be trying your method for most of the system. Thanks again

I successfully raised my first head today, it was one that got pinned between a rain gutter drain pipe and a new fence that was installed last fall. I did exactly what you showed, I knew from your video exactly what to buy. I was able to raise it up enough to spray over the top of the drain pipe. It was so easy! Thanks again!

Very detailed information ℹ️ good job 👍 and another riser trick I use as well is if it was all 1/2 in stocking up I use I 1/2 to 3/4 bushing to make it fit. I enjoyed this vedio. Always a way to get something done ✅ 😎😎😁

I'm having a heck of a time finding the riser. This one head seems to get hit by snowplows every few years. This summer the kid that I've had for two years hit it with his mower. He's never replaced one before. I've done that one too many times, but this time a big tree root is now in the way of the riser, once the head came out. Guess I have to just dig wider tomorrow.

Good job!! Just remember when it snows where you put that head near the driveway. I have mangled a few with the snowblower that are close to the driveway.

Use plow markers and u won’t have to replace heads every year...rule of thumb being if u hit the plow marker you’ve already gone too far...lol,

How do I get this done if the system has been opened for the year? I turned off the main, unscrewed one, and it’s just letting all the water in the line come out flooding the hole I dug. Thanks!

GD.. no issues with leaking at those risers? I have always used teflon tape at those connections.Overkill on my part?
@GrassDaddy
@GrassDaddy 6 жыл бұрын
I debated that too. I don't think it's really necessary but if you have the teflon tape handy it's a very easy extra step. I don't have any at the moment and didn't think to get any, so I didn't bother with going out to get some. I haven't seen any issues from not using it.

I replaced about 6 sprinkler heads this season and there was no sign of tape on any of the fittings. Since they are plastic and slightly tapered I don't it's necessary. Like a commenter above I live in Long Island and watch yours and several other lawn care channels. Learned so much.Thank You! One thing is frustrating though. Many of the products used in the videos we can't get in N.Y. Luckily 'Do My Own" website has a special N.Y. allowed page which helps . Thanks again and hope you are feeling better with the Lyme's disease.

That head by the driveway you moved looks like it is in line to get run over when pulling into your driveway. Thanks for all the videos.

I know.. That's why I wanted them away from the corners, but then with the dead grass as a result.. I feel like I'm gonna lose either way, and I'd rather have green grass and replace a sprinkler lol

What about just replace your heads with taller ones. Not sure on the size you currently are using but seems you change it once and be done with it.
@GrassDaddy
@GrassDaddy 6 жыл бұрын
Yeah I'd like to at some point but the quick fix is just to extend them
@JT_70

Less than $1 to extend a head. Would still need to dig it out to replace it.

The other option is to stay on top of mowing or mow shorter.

How come you didn't use pipe tape?
@GrassDaddy
@GrassDaddy 6 жыл бұрын
Didn't have any, I don't think it's necessary but if you have some handy it's worth putting on.
@GrassDaddy

So I did some searching, pipe tape would be if you are using metal pipes.
@nsbconstruction9698
@nsbconstruction9698 6 жыл бұрын
Not needed on that connection. Tape is only needed on dissimilar materials under constant pressure. A sprinkler head to riser is never under much pressure.

That ground is moist all the way to the bottom of the hole. Yet the grass is dormant, you must have a different problem then lack of water?? A landscape design doesn't use grass from edge to edge, problem areas for grass make good spots to make into flower beds or focal points of some kind.

Multiple things going on... But basically I've been fixing the issues and the water ban is gone so I've been watering daily now. I believe it was multiple issues and en extremely hot summer that revealed those issues. Previous years I could get away with it.

Bro just dig under that sprinkler head and lower it just a touch. So when you mow shorter your all set.

Your entire presentation had the sprinkler head shaded making it difficult to see. While the presentation was good, next time simply reposition your body so the sprinkler head/area you are showing is not shaded.

This is hard way to do it. They also make a riser that is one piece molded with adapter. Using PVC parts in areas that freeze is a big no no. Also you can grab the head with channelock pliers and very little digging. This is not how a pro would do it and clearly amateur.
