One time my French teacher wouldn't let me leave class in high school to get water when I had a serious migraine. She said I should have brought it with me. The pain was so bad I nearly passed out. I ended up leaving without permission to go to the medical room and begged for ibuprofen but they said no so I said "fine, send me home" and they said no again unless I puked. So I did puke. All over the woman's new shoes. (By accident omfg) the day after I was called into the room and given a pass that said I could leave class in the event of a migraine bc they were finally considered a medical emergency and I got a formal apology from the teacher bc my mum kicked tf off

As a woman who has experienced multiple sexual assaults, I think the professor’s statement about retroactively revoking consent when there was no force or substances involved completely undermines the experience of survivors and would further complicate the legal process for convicting predators. It’s already so difficult to believe what happened to you was wrong and worth prosecuting, not to mention the trauma of reliving the experience multiple times with the strong possibility that you will not be believed. Gus is absolutely right, that statement is wildly irresponsible.
@yaboytroy3574 жыл бұрын
On top of everything, if that was a law, people would be using it as an ultimate “fuck you” to a person they’d just broken up with, if it ended poorly, or if a one-night stand wasn’t performing well and was a bitch/asshole. I could see it now
@SeymourDisapproves4 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry that you've had to go through what you've gone through. I'm going to share some thoughts and experiences of my own, if you don't mind. There are situations where a survivor of sexual assault doesn't realize they've been in a manipulative or abusive environment and that they weren't in the right state of mind to consent to sex until long after their experience or long after their abuse first started occurring. My mom works for a nonprofit that helps survivors of sexual assault and domestic abuse build lives away from their abusive environments, and from what I've learned from the resources and research that she puts together for educational material for her coworkers, law enforcement, and survivors themselves, as well as my own experience with friends and family members who are survivors of SA, the ability to retroactively revoke consent is used more often as a way to help survivors stop blaming themselves for the abuse they sustained than it is as an avenue to pursue legal action. Legal action is difficult to pursue in most SA cases to begin with, whether that comes from issues surrounding uncooperative officers, a lack of substantive evidence, a lack of funds, a fear or threat of job or home loss depending on who the assaulter is and how much power they have over the survivor's life, or the survivor's own trauma resurfacing in ways they aren't emotionally prepared to deal with due to a legal system that is not designed to be sympathetic towards said trauma. With all of this said, the knowledge that you can retroactively revoke consent in a situation where you didn't feel safe to begin with probably isn't going to lead to any surge in fake sexual assaults being reported, much less being taken to court. Dont get me wrong, I think the professor's wording was very bad, but I also can't deny the existence of situations where someone's "consent" to sex is actually a form of appeasement towards their assaulter or their survival response to a very scary situation, which they often don't fully realize they've been in because their brains have tried to protect them from that trauma by blocking the memory of it. I'm not sure what your personal experiences with SA have been, and I am not trying to invalidate your experiences by saying any of this. At the end of the day, you can only speak for yourself and I can only speak for myself. I've seen a lot of people get hurt by this in a lot of different ways, and I felt like that was worth mentioning.
@xoxoRanniiaaxoxo4 жыл бұрын
Seymour Disapproves There are definitely survivors that might not realize that what happened to them was sexual assault when they’ve been pressured or coerced, and end up blaming themselves for the trauma they endured. If someone later on realizes that they were pressured or coerced into doing a sexual act that they didn’t want to do, that’s not retroactively withdrawling consent. You can’t withdrawl something that was never given in the first place. I’m definitely not disagreeing with anything you’ve said. I just feel like there needs to be a better phrase used than “retroactively withdrawling consent” because most people think that it means taking away consent after a (100% consentual) sexual encounter has already happened.
@iowacityExperimental3 жыл бұрын
I’m so glad to see someone else say it. Regretting consensual sex after the fact is not equivalent to being raped. It just isn’t. That’s such a disgustingly manipulative to say.

I go to community college and last semester my grandma passed away. Consequently, I missed about a week of classes. My History professor had an attendance policy where most of the grade came from attendance and Weekly Journals. When I came back, I checked my grade to find that, even though I turned in my journals, he had given me a zero attendance grade for the whole week, dropping my grade by a whole letter. I also gotta stress that he was aware of the fact that my grandma was in critical condition well before she died and I kept him in the loop for the whole thing. When I reached out to him via email about why he gave me a zero even though I had an excuse, he just never responded. I did everything right and he didn’t even give me the decency of even responding to my emails. Out of spite, I just said fuck it and refused to go to his classes for the rest of the semester and just turn in the journals from home. Even though I turned everything in on time, I ended up with like a 79.9 and I couldn’t be happier that I’m never gonna see that asshole ever again. Edit: For more context, this dude was such an asshole that he is the single solitary reason I changed my major from history education to engineering. He was one of those “I’m a doctor” pricks that just was so condescending and rude all the time.

I noticed you guys talking about how hot it gets when you're filming and I wanted to offer some advice. There are 2 vst plug ins 1. Waves x-noise or 2. izotope denoizer, (You only need one, I recomend x-noise). Essentially you take this plug in, get a sample of the A.C. running(and nothing else) and use that information to remove the sound from your audio. I use it when recording podcasts, and it's a lifesaver for when you're filming for a long time and want the audio to be of proper quality, but also need to be comfortable. It's not perfect, but as long as your A.C. isn't unusually loud, it should do the trick to where you can't even tell the plug in is running. Hope this helps y'all.

Heck, I’d even go in on hasty theme merch done in good taste. Like a shirt that says “Staying inside with Gus & Eddy” or something. P.S.: As a server, I 100% agree. Ideally everyone would go off 20+% = sever did great, 18-20% = server did good, 15-18% = server did normal w/ a few mistakes, 10-15% = server was awful, 0-10% = you’re just a shitty person or the server is. 15% is not “standard” anymore and frankly hasn’t been for quite a while. Most servers work for $2-8 per hour (and most of that most are closer to $2-4) and literally need tips to survive until the horrible system is changed.

It becomes a numbers game: take as many tables as you can as fast as you can and hope the kitchen doesn’t screw you over with the orders so the table has even less excuse to not give you a good tip. Kitchen is usually salary, they don’t care about messing up and will just send the food out for the server to pay the price with at the table. So it goes.

@remytherat29294 жыл бұрын
technically they are right, alot of people dont understand this but racism isnt just disliking somone because of their race, its systematic discrimination, and because the system is in the favor of white people (in the western world) oppressed minorities cant be racist to white people. however they can be prejudice (which can be judging or disliking someone based on a group they are apart of) but not racist, people often use those two words interchangeably and they are different.

@@remytherat2929 See, this was their exact argument, and you're just as wrong. The left likes to change definitions so that it fits their narrative better. Racism is defined as "prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against a person or people on the basis of their membership of a particular racial or ethnic group". It has nothing to do with power. You cannot change the definitions to words and act like what you're saying still holds water

@@stevemyers3082 it has EVERYTHING to do with power. racism is not a shallow " white people sux lol" it is deeply ingrained in our society. understand the difference between if a black person says "white people are the worst" vs if a white person says "black people are the worse"; because that white person is in a position of privilege has never been the target of wide scale discrimination based on their skin color, the statement "white people are the worse" doesn't hold the weight "black people are the worse" does. this concept extends to issues of sexism and homophobia, men in western society cannot be the victims of sexism, and there is no such thing as hetrophobia. dislike of the oppressors is never equal to actual oppression

@@remytherat2929 all ive ever done my whole life is chill, smoke and play video games. being called an "oppressor" because my skin is white, feels awful and racist.

About the eggs: catching them drives me nuts too but they're actually nice money makers cause they stack. They're worth 200 bells a piece, so getting 10 eggs to sell is 2k bells. That's worth way more than your average fish. Plus I've gotten 15-25 eggs per fishing trip, so that can be a hefty amount of bells

Mr. Sotil Teaches yeah and with all of my wood eggs I’ve gathered I’ve made the costumes and while I don’t quite know the individual sale price it did make a lot of money, maybe even more than just selling the eggs
