This helps a bunch thanks a lot man. Something I realized though was what you said at about 10:00 in about 16th notes and 32nd notes, a lot of the notes that you had on those high hats sounded like 16th note triplets. So essentially you'd get 3 notes (or syllables) in the space that you'd usually get 2 regular 16th. This might be a redundant comment but it changes the grand scheme of how many syllables you have in a bar. I've noticed a lot of catchy trap rappers use triplet syllable schemes so this might help some people decipher that.
@ColeMizeStudios8 жыл бұрын
Hey Todd your spot on bro. I may actually refer to them as 16th note triplets in the future when appropriate. Thanks for watching and shooting some positive feedback this way! Much respect! :) - Cole Mize

yo brother this actually helped break it down really well. I've been rapping for years and randomly managed to chop like this before but never really understood the base level mechanics of how to consistently do it. the syllable count, and the analogy of tongue-twisting vs rolling off the tongue is perfect. Also the syllable stroke being a drum line really helps to.

+Mighty Tome Good question. Yes first expand your vocabulary by creating you some rhyme lists like I discuss in this article buff.ly/1JfS3uS Also try and get in the habit of thinking ahead. 10:14 those are actually sextuplets. rapping in 32nd note form is incredibly fast( in a standard metronome range) but rapping just over 16th isnt fast enough so rappers have taking the rhythmic value of triple meter and applied it to duple time signatures in the form of triplets or the half valued version the sextuplet. you're very knowledgeable about the English language, in regards to rapping, and I think a healthy study of music theory, particularly music notation, could really help you better explain some of the concepts you teach. In no regard am I trying to hate on you. I imagine just as you have a passion for rap you also have a passion to teach and you want to seek out how to do both better. I cant tell you how to rap better, because I'm no rapper, but I am a studied musician with some experience in teaching and any knowledge I can soak up to better myself in that regard I am always open to. hopefully you'll consider learning about a very important element of music that is often neglected by musicians.
@ColeMizeStudios8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for all of your feedback Aaron. I'm actually in the process of digging deeper into music theory. I have a music background as I played Alto and Tenor Sax in band for 5 years but never was exposed to deeper courses on rhythmic sections. Thanks for taking the time to drop some knowledge on me. Though I'm a teacher I will always be a student as I'm constantly learning as I strive to be the best I can possibly be in all that I do. I'll make notes of your suggestions and certainly look deep into notation. Thanks Aaron! Much respect! :) - Cole Mize

So like at school they used to call me Google translator cuz of my knowledge of words and meanings But fuck I suck at English bruh 😂 where do these words come from 😂
@ColeMizeStudios8 жыл бұрын
lol Just read the dictionary or read books, blog posts, or pay attention when watching videos of words you are unfamiliar with and write them down and look them up. Start creating a list of new words you're trying to remember and look at them often. I hope this helps :) - Cole Mize

I discovered that I can rap fast a few weeks ago. I was watching a girl rapping fast & thought I've never tried rapping fast so I wrote some lyrics down & tried & I was pretty impressed with myself. What I'm finding difficult is matching it to music & what bpm I should rap fast to. Would appreciate a video about that if you've not already done one yet. Love your channel.

1 little question. concerning eminem. how does it seem like he never losses his breath when he raps fast? does he record 5 to 6 lines, takes a quick break off the mic and then carries on ones he caught his breath? cause live on stage he is completely out of air after a few lines and a rapper besides him takes the lead. a good example is his song "no love" feat lil wayne.
@ColeMizeStudios9 жыл бұрын
omri cabaza Yeah but certain songs like Rap God he is most likely punching in which means he records and then stops before he runs out of breath and then he goes back and fills in the empty spots. Like you said it shows on stage because when you're not able to rap the whole thing through when you uses punches in the studio. But that's also the roll of the hype man is to support the artist for stuff like that as well. Good observation! :)

I like how you broke things down in drum sense, however just ONE and only ONE thing to correct you on. The part where you mentioned the 3rd and 4th bar are a mixture of 16th and 32nd notes, these are actually 16th notes triplets or sextuplets. It's a little more closer together than 16ths but not as much as 32nds. Guys like Chip Fu and Twista are master of using triplets and sextuplets in their verses. Besides that, you've definitely earned yourself a subsrciber.

'Not repeating or putting too much stress on one syllable" is the opposite of what Watsky does. His raps are so hard because he repeats syllables constantly, for example "Gotta be the one to bite the bullet im a sinner but i bet i coulda been a better man, i wanna be zen but i go sippin on some medicine instead of meditatin but i get it when i can" It makes it so difficult to replicate and he does it so fast
