The "old way" of drilling out rivets was to just drill the head off--that involves using a drill bit that is only slightly larger in diameter than the diameter of the rivet, then just drill until the head is destroyed and you can drive the shank out. You're just drilling to a depth of 1-2mm; don't keep drilling and/or drilling with max RPM until the bit goes all the way through the panel, otherwise you enlarge the original hole. Doing so usually means you'll be using a larger rivet for reassembly after enlarging the hole (and larger rivets may or may not be unsightly). I'm a do-no-harm sort of person and probably stuck in the past[?].

With a little patience and a can of WD40 you can do them without taking the window out. Fit the seal one side, side the window in and shimmy both back!

Get rid of that old rivet gun and get a Milwaukee electric rivet gun! I have one and it has been an invaluable tool for me and my Series 3 109.

Hey, I’m Devlin, the tech in the video, I would absolutely love a Milwaukee, but our shop does have a beautiful pneumatic rivet gun, and for demonstrations purpose I figured not everyone would have a powered river gun so I pulled old faithful out of my box :)

@@devlinmangan4355 Makes perfect sense for the video. I bought my Miliwaukee after I wore out my "old faithful" and don't think I could ever go back to a hand operated rivet tool.
