when you cut off the old pot did you also cut the roots or i didn't see properly? isn't that damage and disturb the plant?
@LarrysTropicals10 жыл бұрын
no you are correct, It did cut a few, but honestly, the plant will bounce back just fine. Often when clipping the pot, you will damage a few roots since the roots grow so close to the pot. But ideally you want to cut as few as possible.

What size bark should I use for repotting cattleyas? I’m using orchiata 3/8 inch bark, is this size too small for blooming size cattleyas?

Hi Luke, first of all you're doing great with the videos, keep it up! But, I have a request; you see yesterday I received my 1st orchid order from Larry's, via Amazon. I decided to get more serious about orchids after watching a lot of videos and doing all kinds of research, which really made me excited about the 5 I have had for years, and 2 keikis I have (Phals, Dendrobiums and one Oncidium). I LOVE PLANTS, my home is literally filled with all kinds of plants from tiny to tree size, all doing great. Anyway, I'll get to the point; can you please make a video that would show and tell what your customers should do when they receive their orders? I was like a "kid at Christmas time" waiting for my order and researching all I could about the 7 different kinds I had ordered and what each of them will need! But when I opened the box and started checking each plant one by one, I became filled with questions: Should I repot this one it needs different media, won't this wet sphagnum moss be bad for the roots? How close to the light source should I put them after the disturbance of traveling? How on earth can this medium sized Vanda survive in this string-like media in it's basket? I think I will mist the roots. And this small Phalaenopsis's leaves are partially covered by this very moist sphagnum moss - I think I need to remove some away from the leaves so they don't rot, etc., etc. Anyway, hopefully you get the jist of what I'm asking, I hope :-). Some were very small and others were bigger. I understood the difference between their descriptions; "near blooming size", "blooming size", etc., but the very small ones will definitely need patience and good care! I am very excited to get them all to the blooming state and growing bigger and healthy! I'm pretty sure I will have great success with them, because I really do have a "green thumb", only for the reason that I get so much "in to it" and research/read about all my hobbies! Anyway, a video to cover some basic do's and don'ts when you receive your order, would be FANTASTIC! Thanks for hearing my suggestion, and I hope to see you do a video for this as soon as you are able to. I really think it would be a good and appreciated one! Thanks Luke!

I actually have a video on MOST of what you are asking! :D we have an orchid growing guide on phals, and vandas. We also have tips, and tricks you will have a LOT to show you that will answer your questions.

Larrys Orchids & Tropicals Hi Luke, no, what I am talking about is explaining what to do with what ever plants you order when first received. I wanted to repot quite a few right away, but when I called Larry's I ended up speaking to a nice Gal there, who told me she was the only one there, and she was unable to answer my questions. She did say "You should just leave them alone for a week", she was very kind, but it was clear she was not an "orchid knowledgeable" person. So, once again, just a basic video of what to do when you receive your order. I have seen all of your videos, and they do not show what to do with "just received very small specimens", and other answers "specifically" for "receiving an order that just went through the shock of being shipped". Also, I went to the web site and your growing guides are very "general", and I cannot find the page on the site about the mentioned "tips and tricks", can you please post the URL? thanks

L Susie DeVargas oooh, I totally understand! I am so sorry. To be honest, the growing guide pertains to a newly received orchid. You will not need to re-pot them because they do not have a very aggressive root system. They can stay in the pots you receive them in for about 4-5 months.

I thought that you were suppose to soak your orchid medium before you repotted the orchid.

I thought somebody plagiarized Luke Marion's videos! Hahahaha! It is because I know him only by his own channel (MIGardener). His looks generally never change, good-looking as ever.

Hi. I noticed all these youtube videos are mispronouncing Cattleya. And I thought, well I have a big mouth and no one else is saying anything so I'll put the word out. If you google cattleya you'll see they we're named after a guy named Cattley - thereby being Catt lee uh. It's an interesting story. Just tell people there are no cows! haha (For this information I get one free CATT-lee-uh) haha.
