Great video, a number of the most eminent market experts have been expressing their views on the severity of the impending economic downturn and the extent to which equities might plummet. I’m trying to help myself, learn enough to make smart moves but it seems I’m just plum dumb because it all goes over my head. I’m at a point where it’s so embarrassing to ask for guidance financially because I should know at least the basics. Idk, I’m just discouraged and want desperately to help myself but don’t know how. I’ll get there eventually I’m sure. But damn. On the other hand, I’m happy to see how the younger generations are wising up, investing early. Much respect for building your own financial tool!! Some areas for improvement I noticed (if interested): 1. there are no simple/convenient indicators for poor/strong financial choices. I would recommend conditional formatting so that positive messages have green cells (as they do now), but negative areas have red cells. 2. the tool has a number of errors when someone is debt free. I would recommend building an additional condition for any of the debt related cells to address that. 3. I noticed a number of typos throughout, I would suggest pasting all the messages in word and letting autocorrect work its magic.

small bug in the sheet: the financial priorities still output that you have "high interest" debt if you have $0 in credit card debt at 21% interest rate. so even though the rate is high interest, there is technically no debt. this is important for people who use credit cards but regularly pay them off on time. thanks for the sheet!

How to build wealth no matter what? Live below your means. Yep that's it, you're welcome. Also, avoid or pay off debt quickly. Debt is simply importing your future money into the present with a certain percentage lost in interest, so what happens is people live well for a number of years by taking future money now then when the future gets here that money isn't there and you're poor, or at the very least you have to work twice as hard to maintain your current lifestyle. So find what is in your means, then live about 10% under that and save or invest it, or both. It's worked all my life.

And yes btw Excel/any equivalent modern spreadsheet is absolutely a 'programming language' -- it's just wrapped in a bunch of user-friendly software that helps you produce a directory structure of XML files without you needing to know how to 'code'. This qualifies as 'programming' -- whereas e.g. using Microsoft Word/any equivalent modern word processor is not -- because the user needs to actually test this directory until it meets certain input and output specifications. It's not just some files you created somehow. I feel that Excel should be more often taught as a 'programming language' in this sense.

Also, we own a home but rent it out to renters, and rent an apartment - does it still work if I also include rent expense as well as mortgage expense?
@steveantonioni2 жыл бұрын
You put the paid off part that equals the equity! Then I’d put the rental income you generate under investment income at the top. And include the mortgage you pay in the mortgage row and the rent you pay in the rent row. The sheet is admittedly not complex enough to capture your situation perfectly probably. It’s more geared towards beginners. If you’re already renting out a property for income you’re past the beginner stage :)

“Savings” become a problem when they just sit in a low interest account and lose value due to inflation. Savings are great when you have a goal to create wealth with those “savings” by buying assets at high value (cheaper assets). These assets could be properties, ownership in companies, or other assets, not liabilities, that will return income over time or grow in value to be sold at a later date.

Honestly if you know how to make that spreadsheet work then you would probably be a better programmers then a lot that I know lol. I work in software engineering and you'd be surprised how many people know very little

Thank you!! This is great. Do we add rent as an expense as well in the first section?
@steveantonioni2 жыл бұрын
Yes! All monthly expenses go there in the first section. You enter it again separately below to help with a different analysis that the sheet will run.

Under the Investment Insights tab, Emergency Fund keeps saying it’s incomplete even though there is an amount input on the Table.

"Physical Assets" doesn't make sense at all, unless ofc if it is a real estate. Counting the value of "electronics" and "equipments" as assets is just bizarre lol.

Very cool. I tried out your tool. Great idea!! I noticed one kink: on Analysis tab cell B47 should say Table!B56>(B6*3) - otherwise it'll always tell you your emergency fund is insufficient in C6 of investment insights. Otherwise it works perfectly Thanks!!
@lauren82952 жыл бұрын
Or wait it says Table!B56>(B6*3) but it should say Table!B18>(B6*3)

It is always good to have a financial plan. I work with a professional planner and fixed-income strategist in NY. The fixed income portion of your portfolio won’t simply serve as a buffer to the volatility of the equity portion of your portfolio, but will provide legitimate income i was able to make over $750k with just an investment of 120k you could try less

Hey, thank you for this! However, not sure if I've omitted a piece of info on the first page (I don't think I have, though), but the first section of the financial insights page, B5 and B6, where it should confirm whether my income is higher or lower than my expenses and the corresponding advice, I'm just getting "#NAME?" errors. I've tinkered but not figured out what's upsetting the formula...

Hi Stephen thank you for sharing this. I think some of your marcos might be broken on the file because when I plugged in all the numbers it came back with a '#name' error. Would it be possible for you (or anyone else whos had this problem and fixed it) to recommend a fix? Cheers

People here are shilling crypto and day trading stocks these are the worst ways to build wealth, people may hate to hear it but the best way to increase your wealth is to learn actual skills and then get a job doing them, learn to program, learn to do framing or plumbing, then save money and learn to hold onto it, buy a house when inflation is settled and interest rates are normal, don't buy a new car right now, keep your car for years, it takes years oftentimes decades to build wealth

How does the spreadsheet account for monthly payments on the mortgage (not interest)?
@steveantonioni2 жыл бұрын
It accounts for the total monthly mortgage payment including interest. That cell is for determining your housing costs relative to the rest of your financial picture
