Nice job, but I’m still having trouble trying to figure out where I am in relation to the information on the screen as it scrolls past. In looking at structure scan I understand I’m seeing straight down on left/right of keel... and the distance out to whatever structure. But where is it on down scan.... and echo. Is subject matter just as the boat passes over and shows on the right coming left across the screen, then out behind the boat as the subject matter disappears from the left side of machine? And then what’s best, make a waypoint, and gps spot lock off to the side and fish.... or throw a marker out , come around and fish toward it? Trying to learn this stuff. Thanks.

In general, the TI units are faster in response to inputs. This is seen when quickly switching between sonar, downscan, chart, and split screens kzbin.infoUgkxeAxH15LxhjGlg5-CRYqjTGTEH0tbY4vk recommend The Hook units will show some lag on button pushes and screen switching. The big ticket item though is maps. If you install a mapping card such as Navionics or the free C-Map Genesis which has a lot of map detail, then moving around the map with the cursor or when running down the lake can lag significantly on the Hook units, but is seamless with the TI units.

So when you find the fish on the screen ..... Your readings coming from under the boat ?? How do you know where to cast ? Or how far left or right fwd or backward would you know where to cast. Or do you drop it right off the side of the boat ? Soon to buy a fish finder but a little lost there ?

Very informative. I have a Lowrance and an Eagle on my Tracker Targa from 2005 when I got the boat new. I want to get at least one with modern technology but, in 2005 I was able to pay cash for a new boat. Being retired now I am looking at the lower end units. I would like to see videos of some of the lower priced units. I watched this one more then once. Thanks for your effort to put out a very informative video.
@Wired2Fish
@Wired2Fish 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Bill, appreciate the comment and we'll cover down on some more of the price point units in the near future. The beauty is 2D, 2D w CHIRP, Down Imaging and Side Imaging technology has been brought down to many entry level units as well from all the major manufacturers. A lot of the cost is associated with big units is screen size and computer processing power, but 5-7'' screens are plenty good for a lot of folks, and price from as low as $350 - $700 and packed with the same technology as seen in this video.

The Humminbird Helix 7 G2 Sonar (goo.gl/4ZhHAz) packs a lot of punch for the money. There's 8 models with various technology combinations with prices ranging from $400 to $800. If you prefer Lowrance, their Elite 5 or 7 Ti Sonar is another good option (goo.gl/hh3U17).

Great vid. What i have not seen yet in a video like this, is where is that view from de boat. Is it in front? On the back, etc? I mean, while you are going forward you see the screen going from right to left. Those fishes, stuctures etc are going below de boat in the same direction, on a side, behind. If i spot a fish, should i cast to the front of the boat, just below the boat, to a side, to the back of the boat. I hope i expressed my self clear. Best video ever..... why has nobody ever done anything like this before. All the research I've tried to do to learn to read sonar and downscan, it's almost like nobody starts at the beginner level. And what brand would be best or easiest for a beginner, humminbird or lowrance?
@Wired2Fish
@Wired2Fish 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks randl2000. We appreciate the comments and will be delivering more of this stuff in the near future. Our staff use Lowrance, Humminbird and Raymarine. All are solid units, so I'd recommend going to a nearby retailer and going through some of the menus yourself to see what feels right. The Humminbird Helix shown in this video comes in a 5'', 7'', 9'', 10'' and 12'' screen. The menu is the same for all the units and very simple to navigate.

Just took me 2 weeks to decide on the upgrade to my fish finding capabilities. Settled on Garmin. But without a doubt Hummingbird is the best. I currently own a HB with gps and the Navigation feature is awesome. Can't boat/fish without it. But I need DI. My problem with Lowrance and Garmin is that they say for inland waters you don't need a chartplotter. "BS" Being out on a lake with many twists and turns I want to Navigate back to boat dock safely after dark. With Lowrance and Garmin I must use waypoints to get back. NO! I want Navigation. I picked a Garmin for its cost and the DI display was very clear. So I'll use my current HB for Nav and my Garmin for fish/structure location.

I have a older unit that is just down scan. If I would have waited another 4 month the option of both 2d and down scan would have been an option. Dang!! I am still not sure what I am looking at sometimes. And understanding what is a fish and what is just a dot of interference. Thank you Jeff for making this video. Seeing the 2d and down imaging side by side is very helpful. Now I want to get back out there and look at stuff and see if I understand it more.

@Wired2Fish

They won't be inaccurate. You both will probably pick up noise and interference which will look like a lot of clutter on the screen. You'd both have to be REALLY close to it completely interrupt the other one's return.

A good presentation on the technology. However, I use my old FishEagle to find fish. The new tech is great for seeing really good pics of weeds, rocks, and the bottom but fish are a dot...hmmm. You demonstrated clearly how 2D clearly identifies fish and you made a point of confirming the dot(s) as fish in 2D. 2D being old school sonar. Coming from Silicon Valley, this new tech demonstrated offers very little incremental improvements. It is Tech for Tech's sake. A tech looking for marginal improvement. Like golf clubs or fly rods at the end of the day it is about delivering expectations.
@Wired2Fish
@Wired2Fish 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Dave, we respectfully disagree on the value of down and side imaging. The technology defines structure and cover in much greater detail than 2D sonar, and that in itself is a compelling reason to consider using it. In addition, being able to count individual fish - literally putting a head count to a school can influence the decision to stay or go. Jason Sealock outlines this process in this outstanding interpretation video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f4vHeYesbc2fm68 Side and down imaging have become vital tools for fishing pros and enthusiast anglers. Not necessary for all, but greatly enhance the ability to read water for those that choose to delve into the various technologies.

What is the black line the runs down the center of the screen? Is this the area directly beneath the boat which the sonar doesn't see?

Newbie question. Why does the image scroll from right to left at a constant speed? It seemed to go at the same rate whether you were traveling 0.3 or 3.6.mph Wouldn't it scroll faster when you speed up and stop all together when the boat is stationary? Trying to wrap my head around this.
