And my first 100 subs would always have a special place in my heart :) Well, if my video saves 1 hour from each my viewer's PhD program, my hard work in PhD/Postdoc would pay off. Hope you are doing well with your PhD, Kevin. It always put a big smile on my face to see your comments!

Thank you for another highly insightful video! I used to believe that I needed to read everything to be a good student, but your message encourages me that I can be selective in what I read and still excel. To answer your question, it’s good to address these same themes again and again. For your sake, you can keep referring to and providing links to your previous videos.

Hi Benjamin, It also has taken me a long time to realize that (since we are all outstanding students to begin a PhD). Indeed, you are the "CEO" of your own thesis, so it's a process to learn how you could make many sensible decisions. And it's better to make a bad decision than to be indecisive and to waste time! The word "decision" has a latin root that means "to cut off". de = ‘OFF’ + caedere = ‘CUT’ CUT + OFF = DECISION! It seems this shorter 5 min-video is quite well received, so I may do similar reminders in the future (actually it saves me time too!). Appreciate your feedback and assurance :) Vera

My impression is that these tips, although very effective, lend more towards how to better manage journal articles read them quickly and effectively. My undergrad professor taught us an excellent method for reading many journals fast and efficiently. Perhaps journals have a different than Igneous Metamorphic Petrology (within the Geosciences) than other sciences? I will give Zotero a try though; I did learn something from your vid--that's the key right?!

Reading and managing what you have read are both essential to being a good researcher. The point is, you are always going to read MANY article to find the right one to carefully read. Besides Zotero, it's essential to rename the file according to project/chapter of PhD. Zotero is hugely valuable when you have more than 30 references (in my case thousands of them in postdoc!)
