Reading the manufacturers' nutritional label can be very confusing to an average uninformed person, you can be either clueless of what it means or got the wrong idea based on own misconception. Your explanation is highly educational.

@FitMotherProject
@FitMotherProject 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Harmon, thanks for writing in and great question! The remaining carb amount can come from a variety of other ingredients. They can be simply remaining carbohydrates, starches, sugar alcohols, etc. If determining your net carbs though, you will subtract any fiber/sugar alcohol from the total amount. -The FMP Team

I’m not sure if you’ll see this but I have a question about the percentages for the calcium and other vitamins and minerals. I don’t know what 20% of your DV means. Is the goal to get to 100% or something? How do you know you’ve had the correct amount of percentage?
@FitMotherProject
@FitMotherProject Ай бұрын
Great question! The %DV is a general recommendation that applies to the average person. Every individual is different and requires different macro/micronutrients though so please take with a grain of salt. Hi Dr A, good video, thanks for uploading. FYI, if there is less than 10% of trans fats in a food, they can list it as zero. This also means there could be 9.999999% and they are "allowed" to list it as zero. Trans fats are evil, I've recently been watching a lot about them and it makes me shudder when I think of all the crap I used to eat (I recently started to eat healthy).

Wait, do you add the Total sugars and included sugars to get the true amount?? Sooo 22g of total sugar+18g included sugar= 40g of sugar. And total sugar= naturally occuring, included sugar=added in the process? Right?
@FitMotherProject
@FitMotherProject 11 ай бұрын
Hey Princess, thanks for writing in and great question! The total sugar will already include the added sugar so you don't have to double up. You are also right that total sugar will also include the naturally occurring amount also. If you want to hone in on a specific line though, the added sugar take primary focus as many natural sugars come with fiber, to help slow down any blood sugar spikes (as with fruit, for example). Best of luck and thanks for watching! -The FMP Team

I learned with a quickness when my roommate was diagnosed with heart issues just how healthy those "healthy" frozen meals are. I had to educate him on the serving sizes, as well, turns out there's WAY more salt in most foods than what they'd have you think, and some of Campbell's "healthy" versions of foods have MORE salt than the original version! I cook now using unprocessed ingredients, and we're both better off for it.

Its very confusing, even after your explanation which isn't your fault. I think for me personally you need to start small and work your way up. Start off by looking at calories and the serving size. From their go into what the percent is for each nutritet like the fats and protein and carbs. Look at the sugar and see if its to high. mostly I'm gonna look and see if a lot of sugar is being added at this point in my journey. Then lastly I'm looking at ingredients. Which is prolly what i should do first but I'm not sure all the way on what to look for. As I improve and see what to look for then ill worry more about ingredients.

Hey William, thanks for writing in and great question! The calories from fat simply mean out of the total amount of calories, the 130 come from fat (with the remainder from carbs, protein, etc). So when counting calories, you will still count the full, 470 amount. -The FMP Team

The one ingredient that confuses me is palm oil. It just seems to me an ingredient to avoid. Am I correct to avoid this ingredient as well?
@FitMotherProject
@FitMotherProject 4 жыл бұрын
Hey Just, thanks for writing in and great question. Palm oil is a higher saturated fat oil but what separates palm (and coconut) oil from other saturated versions is that it is comprised of medium chain fatty acids. This does not have the same type of dangers health effect as consuming trans fat or longer-chain saturated fats. However, there may be a difference between cooking with unrefined Palm oil and the oil found in processed goods. Check out this great article detailing the difference between the tropical oils and others==>www.marksdailyapple.com/guest-post-by-modern-forager-the-tropical-oils/ -The FMP Team

I sometimes look at the ingredients and the carbs on the food. These instructions are good for people to know. I didn't know bread had carbohydrates that are not listed as sugar, but act as sugar in your body.

How did you get 1,000 MG of sodium how do I do the math
@FitMotherProject
@FitMotherProject 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Queenah, thanks for writing in and great question! The pizza in the example had 370mg PER SERVING and there were 3 total servings in the product. So you would take your 370mg x 3 servings to get the total mg for the mini pizza. So in this case, we were looking at 1,110mg or 1.11g of sodium, which is over half your daily recommendation in one tiny pizza. It's always important to remember the nutritional information you are looking at is PER SERVING as it all depends on how many servings you are consuming. -The FMP Team

I have a question that is not related to the topic, how can you find out how much calories, sugar, etc. in fresh fruit and veggies?
@FitMotherProject

Hey Wanaya, thanks for writing in and great question. To find the calories/macros for various foods, there are actually many great sites online that can provide this type of information. A personal favorite is nutritiondata.com as they can provide a breakdown, depending on serving size, as well as other valuable information such as the nutritional density and RDA recommended amounts to consume. -The FMP Team
