Thank you so much. I just finished taking apart and putting my ignition switch back together when I now see that all I might have needed to do was to move the bottom part of the inside of the switch with a screwdriver like you mentioned. Thank you so much.

Worked PERFECT on my 2008 SG....as someone mentioned below, the tabs on the rod are a different width. SO this helps with proper orientation for sure!!

Great help! I also did a video but only to show the alignment. Your video made me realize couple other details. Those teeth on the shaft are larger in one side. If you’ve twisted the slots around 180 degrees, you’ll have to turn them back around. Then setting the key in and resetting the release tab like you said will enable it to go right in the way it came out. Thanks for uploading.

You turn the switch to the right after ignition for accessories. The left is for locking unless is different than us foreigners.

On that particular bike there were 2 positions to the left. 1 was accessories and the 2nd was to lock.

No insert your key into the switch push the button up than turn the key to to the right it will lock the button in place. insert the switch, when the switch has seated turn the key back to the left and you will hear the button snap back out locking the switch in place.

@@tinkeringwithharleys hey buddy bud just to clarify the lock position is to the left not the right. When you turn the switch far left it’s in the unlock position. Oh yeah, I have a 06 electro glide maybe the 12 is different. At any rate I don’t know how I got it to work but it works. At first check engine light was on and alt wasn’t charging but all the sudden after I cycled the switch and turn it on and off the check engine light cut out and charging system started charging. I went for a 40 mile putt around town and all is good. Hey for those fellas that don’t have a radio system you can bore a couple holes in that plastic to access riser bolts allowing access without pulling the faring off. If you don’t like the holes just get a couple rubber grommets to punch fill the holes otherwise it looks tough.

Thanks for the tip. To tell you the truth I really don't remember which way the switch went to lock it. I'd have to have the bike in front of me. When you realign the tumblers some work right away and some you have to cycle through. Thanks for you're input.

It depends on the year you have. The earlier models you can remove without the key. But I've not tried it without the key on the late models. Sorry I can't be more helpful. Thanks for the question and thanks for watching.

I have a '17 RGS and this happened to me in a parking lot in the summer when I went to lock the fork it all popped out and I made the mistake of turning the wheel and that was it. I ended up going to an auto parts store and buying a screwdriver. I messed around for 2 hrs baking in the sun and it was so bright I could not see down the tube. by a stroke of luck I got it to go into alignment. I bought an after market alignment tool from Amazon when I got home for something like 20 or 30 bucks that lives in my saddle bag now. I'll add this is a really shit design and should have been redesigned years ago.😡
