Watching this during the pandemic. Feeling very isolated these days and look forward to being able to reconnect with others.

I had taxi driver friend who would pick me up in Jamaica and take me to his house. I would nap from the red eye flight n wake up n hang out with the family. It is as you describe. I have a little house I rented in the community and never felt alone there.. Our friendship developed over time and was very natural. My irish was coming through. I gave the daughter a laptop n she later went to work at the airport. It required genuine affection.

I'm lowlands Scots with ancestral links to Antrim and understand exactly what you mean in taking active interest in people that you speak to. It's so much more than superficial 'how are you?', I've experienced so much warmer relations with work colleagues and even ancillary staff like cleaners in my workplace when you address them by name and ask how their day is etc... the feeling of connection is palpable. Thanks Tina (Petra)

The question 'how are you?' is batted around every day, and I sense it as deeply insincere. They do not wish to know how we are, it's just fluff. Of course, if it's asked sincerely then it's good.
