I really didn't think you could save that head, but wow it came out way better than I thought it would.

I never knew about that seat cutting kit. I'm gonna have to get one. U deff know what to do. Their like 1600 from bp racing. Loaded head no cams! So yeah id fix it up too. Only thing I would do from here is with those deep gouges, I would some way, some how gently de bur the edge of the gouge. Not b.c. theres a burr, but b.c. the metal can be razor thin at the edge and become a hot spot. These bikes have such high compression u could work that head with a sanding mandrel on the Drexel a fair bit more and be totally OK. And if u were ever worried about going too far, u could always cc the head with flat glass and alcohol. And get ur cc number, then remove material and set a limit to only remove 1 cc or less. But it's fine lmao she'll run. I'd just double check no sharp edges near gouges and be fine. Really, awesome work man!!!! I do learn something every video

I didn’t know how to remove the guides and I had no idea about the seat cutting kit! I like these informative videos. Maybe you could show us how to port heads! Keep up the great work!

Smoking deal. I am currently looking for a head myself and they are 700+ all day on eBay and about 2 grand from BP racing which is a joke. I could understand Wiennen Motorsports, MMAD, RE, Rage or any proven shop selling one of their heads for 2+ grand but BP? Nice save maybe ill send you mine lol

I want to pick up a valve guide removal tool, but 5mm and 5.5mm seems to big for my 06 YFZ450 head. What's the inner diameter for the valve guides? Thank you so much!

Is this head still in use? If so how many hours does it have on it since you did this! Getting mixed info on titanium valves not being lapped 😭😭
@RCBGarage9 ай бұрын
The head is on a shelf and has been since the video. When I need the head I will be putting kibble white SS valves in it. I put it on a motor, did a leak down on it and it failed. One seat needs more work. Hope this helps.

If you cut all the seats and don’t lap the valves the valves well last much longer. From what I’ve read on fast heads. Do you know if these engines last after you finished them?
@RCBGarage2 жыл бұрын
Yes they last in fact they rip! I have always lapped values into their seats. There is no other way to get them to mate perfectly.
@cordellwheeler25612 жыл бұрын
Nice!! I have a 2008 yz250f I was about ready to give up on because I’ve been told and read so many times that you don’t lap the valves on these race engines. I might just pick up a set of stainless valves and give it a try see what happens.
@RCBGarage2 жыл бұрын
@@cordellwheeler2561 The titanium valves are coated, if you lap them do it lightly. Switching to kibble white valves is really the way to go. The head I used in this video is in a box on a shelf haven't used it yet. The purpose of the video is to show that you can fix a damaged head.

I’m looking at the prox valve and spring kit. I only need intake valves but wonder if I should do both while I’m in there?

Doesn't the 5 valve yzf engine use titanium valves? I thought you weren't supposed to lap them as they have a special coating on them?
@RCBGarage2 жыл бұрын
You‘re right they are. Titian is a hard metal and should be ok.
@tomatoknuckles2 жыл бұрын
@@RCBGarage Yeh should be good. And you done a great job bringing that head back to usable condition.
@dennisbrooks1862 жыл бұрын
Yeah they say the edge where they r lapped can get hotter then the rest of the valve? Idk I super gently lapped my yfz450r stroker w/titan. Valves and they seem fine. I lapped just long enough til the noise got quiet and that was it.

Honestly I have worked on a lot of Japanese engines and I don’t really care for the Yamaha 5 valve heads.
