Had the same problem on my 2007 Yfz 450, the rod was stiff and it was poorly maintained! When I did an oil change, the oil filter was trash, so it did not have any filter technically and it was pumping oil with little metal shaving onto the rod and it gave up on me on the dunes but getting it together this weekend ! Video helped a lot!👍🏻

Thanks for the tutorial! I cracked my crankcase in the summer and my quad is picking dust ever since then. I took off the engine but didn`t had time to open it. Im planning on doing it this week and your videos would help a ton. Fingers crossed the engine isnt all turned into a salad lol.

Ahh thanks for watching! Yeah hopefully she's not too bad in inside!

Looks like it would be really handy to have some sort of really solid engine holder to torque those head bolts. I've seen smaller table top holders, but they probably would quite do. Might need to be bolted to a solid table or bench.

I agree. Would be nice. I also have a vice but as of yet haven't bolted it down due to space. We purchased some land in Brooksville near Croom and will be building a huge shop out there, as well as a house and plan to build a test track on it. I need more room over here right now lol. Even bringing in the press, I had to toss out a parts washer for the space lol

Did you put that ball back in?, I think for assembling the clutch…

Its been a long time since I did this job but I must have, everything turned out well and it wouldnt have if that bearing is forgotten

My clutch doesn’t engage where i could’ve done something wrong? No lack on the clutch wire
@UpAllNight919 ай бұрын
I would pull the clutch pressure plate back off and make sure the push rod is inserted into the actuator lever (that the clutch cable connects to) correctly.

Hey man did you do any start up videos ?

Not sure I understand. You mean like starting the quad?

Well I didn't install that motor back in when I was done. It was handed back to the owner right off the bench

Great video I have a question I just had my YFZ450 motor rebuilt But for some reason I can't get it running because it seems the compression is too strong what can I do To get the quad odd running correctly? Bought a rebuild kit Rebuilt the motor and it just will not run It seems the compression is too high
@UpAllNight912 жыл бұрын
I would first remove the spark plug and spin the motor bike hand to see if its compression or something else. If its compression then I would make sure the cam timing is accurate and that the auto decompression surely does crack the exhaust valve open during startup

Why don't they just use torque specs for those head bolts? Torque to yield?
@UpAllNight912 жыл бұрын
Torque to yield TTY bolts. My understanding is they are designed to stretch, putting more of a spring force on the gasket instead of just a solid clamping force. I dont know why some motors use TTY and others dont.

Any lubricant on the camshafts?!?
@UpAllNight912 жыл бұрын
I do lube the cams if I clean the cams and head journals dry. But if they are still oily I don't worry about it.

Just wondering but is it normal that when I spin my crank it gets stiffer when the piston is getting to top dead center and then smooth has butter when going back down? Like it's smooth has butter going up too, it's just when the piston gets to the top it takes a little bit of force (not a lot) to bring it back down and that's with the spark plug out. Just worried I might have a bad bearing or something...

I would remove the cams, hold the timing chain up and rotate it and see if it's not just the cams opening the valves that you are feeling?
