I can appreciate the fact that the video has been made for instructional purposes, however I'd strongly suggest that when welding the diff guard into place that the diff centre is bolted firmly into the hosuing so as to avoid warpage of of the diff centre housing flange. Even with the slightest warpage I don't believe that the diff centre bolts will pull the flange back to it's true position, failing to do so will guarantee that your diff centre will leak at the flange. My point is proven by the simple fact that both the diff centre housing, and the diff centre flange on the housing are machined surfaces.

I would never weld on those horizontal brackets with at least housing be welded to thick welding table ,toyota machined these after welding and cooling ,this is sketchy at best better to leave housing intruck while doing this and weld top an bottom at same time .Even a few 1000nds of warpage and your fuked

Here’s another FYI, Hobart welders made by Miller marked down like 40%. I did some research before I was trying to find a Miller welder for a bargain and went with a Hobart instead and I’m really satisfied with the performance.

I just started working on a 83 4x4. First project to rebuilding the front axle. It will be a daily driver and light trail rig. Will getting rid of the anti wrap bracket affect the on road manners any? Should I leave the Anti Wrap Bracket and associate parts?

I checked with Nick our Toyota Specialist here at Low Range and this was his reply, "It should not affect on road performance at all, and if it were my truck I would remove it." Thanks for watching and commenting. If we can help any further please let us know. If I were you I'd call 801-805-6644 and ask for Nick.

I don't know. I asked our Sales Manager William and said it might be best if you give him a call at 801-805-6644 or email him at william@lowrangeoffroad.com. I am sure he can help you. Thanks for shopping with Low Range Off-Road.

I just spoke with Nick (referenced in previous reply) and he said, "we are waiting on the wheel bearing nut kits and then we can build them, should be any day now" Hope this helps.

What is the function of truss...decoration?
@lowrangeoffroad1
@lowrangeoffroad1 8 жыл бұрын
+enterBJ40 Toyota Axle housings are not indestructible and will bend under severe off-road use. The truss strengths the axle housing and reduces the risk off bending. Thanks for watching and commenting.

The truss will assist/strengthen the housing from the centre, to the inner of leaf spring mount, the weakest point of that particular housing is at the point of the tube on the outer side of the leaf spring mount to the ball end. Toyota have already fitted a truss to the lower section of the housing during the manufacturing process, however in saying that, it too doesn't stop the housing bending at the tube or ball end.

Sorta. It's in compression and the strength of that added member is in the top chord, and that ain't that big. More weight in the webs then that, but it does look cool.

So what is the leaf spring spacer for?
@lowrangeoffroad1
@lowrangeoffroad1 9 жыл бұрын
+7979kelly When Toyota built these solid front axles for their trucks and 4Runners the spring pad on the driver side is about 3/8 of an inch lower than the pad on the passenger side. To accommodate this difference Toyota made the driver side spring with 3/8" more arch in it than the passenger side. Aftermarket springs do not take this arch difference into account. They have equal arch on both springs. Therefore, if you are installing aftermarket leaf springs, you will need to add the 3/8" pad. If you are going with the original springs you do not need the 3/8" pad. Thanks for the question and thanks for watching.

Not trying to be a know all, just sharing my experience which spans 40 odd years. When Toyota built the Hilux chassis at the factory, all and I mean all the variations of the Hilux chassis had a natural twist which favored (RH down) the right side front corner by 10mm (3/8"") , Which is why the front springs are marked "left" and "right". And why they did so is anyone's guess. However the problem was that when these vehicles were involved in accident many accident repairers in their wisdom assumed that either the left front corner was up, or the right corner was down so they then repaired the frames (chassis) true, which obviously then affected the manufacturers level ride height on the vehicle.
