You definitely make it look easy enough to make me think hard about doing myself when the time comes instead of spending the many thousands Suncoast wants. I'd be a little nervous sticking my fingers inside that PVC pipe under all that pressure in the press though...lol

Thanks for the Video. I am doing my first 48RE and so far your explanation of measuring the overdrive clearance was the easiest. Been trying to figure out how to do that without buying the tools. The only thing I didn't see you explain or show how you measured it was the intermediate shaft clearance to see if you needed a new spacer on the intermediate shaft? How do you measure that without the tools. I have the same intermediate shaft; however, I had to change the overdrive housing so I want to make sure that I have the correct intermediate spacer on the shaft.
@ChadMyers733 жыл бұрын
Are you talking about the spacer on the Extension housing end of the intermediate shaft?

Yes, the c clip looking spacer, (color coded) on the end of the intermediate shaft that goes into the overdrive housing. Thanks

How much did you have to machine off that one plate to get more clutches in the overdrive? I see you remove the wavy snap ring but was there much some machining you did to that thick steel?

I tore my 48re core transmission apart.The overdrive unit was a bitch to get off.Intermediate shaft is stuck inside the overdrive.Where I bought it they said it had no o/d that is why.But I proceeded to take the rest it the transmission apart that way eventually I got it off but shaft is stuck in o/d.Guess I have to take it to a transmission shop and get them to get it out.Ever have that problem?

100% incorrect way to determine the O/D clutch piston spacer. There are special tools made to do the job correctly, also how do you know the intermediate shaft spacer ring is the correct one.? That is important, because the final endplay adjustment relies on a correct intermediate shaft spacer measurement. I've rebuilt plenty of these since the first came out.
@ChadMyers7310 ай бұрын
That prybar is the same thickness as your measuring tool that you purchase I believe it’s 6311 if I’m not mistaken, and that came from the ATG manual. For intermediate shaft spacer I took it to a transmission shop and had that measurement determined for me. While I was there, he checked my ring spacer measurements just to double double check me and he said I was spot on.
