In this video I demonstrate the proper methods of cleaning and rebuilding a turbocharger . Turbos are pretty simple to work on with basic tools and skills. More and more custom motorcycles and cars being customized with turbos and superchargers, so it's good to have rebuilding experience for when they wear out and fail.

@@billyarden9708 no balance really needed as the wheels are the same. However the clocking of the turbine wheel and compressor wheels relative to each other is important if you want to retain the original balance. Although if you don't follow that the turbo is unlikely to fly apart..it may...may...fail a little earlier though.

My screwdriver doesn't have a handle, so I had trouble tapping it to remove the compressor. I had a look around and the only thing I could find was a frozen hotdog. After a few taps it came right off, plus it smells like hotdogs now! Thanks Ichiban!

Great video i ordered the snap on tool kit in video (just under $1100.00) But now have to wait for it to be shipped. So in the mean time i'm installing my cross drilled brake lines, and my new o-pipe exhaust (50 hp gain BTW) If by then tools havent arrived i will substitute turbo with hair dryer to avoid engine damage.

...and what about balancing the shaft? If the shaft with the impellers ever been apart and rebuild again, it'll be necessary to balance it!The shaft drives for about 100.000 up to 200.000 rpm (some even more...)!If there is any unbalance in the shaft the bearings and shaft wear very fast...

In order to properly service SAE and metric turbos, you will need SAE and metric, left-handed and right-handed vice grips otherwise you'll booger up the hardware. Learned that the hard way :(

Argggghhhhh! You forgot to mention installing the circular heat shield plate against the exhaust side turbine BEFORE putting the shaft into the housing. Fortunately I noticed I had one part left over...after it was completely assembled. Otherwise, thanks for an excellent video, and for the humor too.
