BR09's instructions for Win11 Pro are accurate, but NOT so for Win10 Pro. In that GPEdit the 'Windows Update' key does NOT have the option "Manage updates offered from Windows Update". Instead you need to go to the sub-key under 'Windows Update' which reads "Windows Update for Business". There you will find (on the right side) the option to "Select the target Feature Update version" etc.

Yes. There are subtle update differences between the two versions both in Settings and GPEdit.

@@toastie1488 I went ahead and followed the advice of a different video and made the entry for windows update manually. Idk if it will work. You might be able to make a second installation of 23H2 on a new drive using ISO downloaded from Microsofts website. You do not have to buy one, microsoft provides it for free.

It's amazing seeing this because I actually did this myself a while back without knowing any videos showing you how to stay on an old build past 365 days. Only difference is with mine I set mine to "Windows 12" and "24H2" because if I don't upgrade my Windows 11 21H2 before Windows 12 releases, my intention is to try out Windows 12 on this machine. Also, I'm not technically using an out of support version of Windows 11 because although I'm on Windows 11 Pro, I'm using the Windows Updates for Windows 11 Enterprise, and 21H2 is supported until October 2024 on Enterprise.

Hiya. Great video thanks. I have one question though...I have windows home 11 & i don't have the windows update folder in the registry. I got as far as windows, but no update folder. Would it be elsewhere or hidden?

Hey Brian, great video. I have Windows 11 Home, followed your registry keys to the letter (am very comfortable with regedit), but Get Windows Update is not dimmed as shown @ 08:30. I even rebooted the machine, which we know is not required, but no dim. I am doing this because I need Mixed Reality to remain installed on my machine - the big bad wolf is going to remove it in a future release of Win 11. Ideas?

It would be really helpful if you answered some of the questions here. Many of us do NOT have the update bar greyed out which would suggest that this method does not work on Windows 11 Home. Should we also stop the windows update service maybe? But that restarts at every restart I guess.

What I did not understand is if we had to turn on the "Get the latest updates as soon as they're available" before changing the settings. If I had this setting on windows would start updating to 24H2 straight away, isn't it the case? After setting the updates to stay on 22H2 the above setting is greyed out and OFF and also it shows "Some update files are missing or have problems. We'll try to download the update again later. Error code: (0x80070003)" on the top. This could be because I paused the updates as soon as I realised that it was trying to update to 24H2. Windows nightmare.

I followed your instructions using Group Policy Editor on WIN11 Pro. Today the system pushed 24H2 to me however it did not automatically install it. It gave me the option to click to install. Maybe I do not understand the process. I assumed that by setting 23H2 as my OS, I would not see anything at all on 24H2. Is this normal?

Well Brian personally I have had no issues that I can think of with any updates except of course those that reset your settings. Plus as far as I know the 23H2 version has not ben released here in Australia and I am waiting to see what it is like and for Windows 12 I am wondering how many changes to a new OS is necessary and I for one am getting a little tired of these changes.

Ms Should have just left the Control panel and just added stuff to it, easier to navigate than settings, and the gui since 8.0 has been a downgrade compared to WXP, WV, W7

Hi Brian, I've been checking when I install Windows 11 it always comes with corrupted data, even checking the sha-256 image to see if it's the same. It doesn't matter if the pendrive is good or bad, the problem is always the same. Could it be a defect in the windows itself?...I tried 22h2/23h2 same problem....I've already tested it on several PC configurations with different parts. check it out and let us know your experience.

How do you reverse this using group, policy, editor, delete it, or choose, disabled, or choose not configured/.win 11, 22h2… you showed how to reverse it in the registry, but how do I reverse it using group policy editor

I did try how to permanently disable Window update from KZbin but after upgrading to 23H2 and I disable Window update just like before, It automatically re-enable window update and automatically update again .. I can no longer disable Window update in 23H2 with group policy and registry editor
