*One extra thing you need to know....AUDIO DE-SYNC* If you are using Windows 7 then *Shadowplay will split files above 4GB* into multiple files. This usually would not be a problem if it were not for *Shadowplays variable fps*, this means that the fps will not be constant (ie what you set it at) if you choose to record at 60fps *sometimes you will get some files that are between 5.94fps - 60fps*. This only becomes a problem with multiple files and certain programs, I have found Premier Pro and After Effects to have errors and *will not work or export if you are not using files with the same fps*, you can however change your fps using the built in settings but this *WILL de-sync your audio*. Instead use Handbrake a free program which will *re-encode your files into a constant fps with no de-sync*. You can now use your new files to export in premier pro or after effects. This has saved me a couple of times :)

Jack, I use Shadowplay a lot, and you didn't mention how to fix the issue where the audio and video desyncronize, which happens to every video I record with it, so I have to use Handbrake to realign them. This is of course if you actually do get this problem, if not nevermind. Nice vid tho. :D

For guys with an AMD-Graphics-Card there are plenty of recording options too: 1. The AMD Gaming Evolved App features a capture tool very similar to shadowplay. You can record in 1080p60fps in 50Mbit/s (for example) without any performance hit. 2. OBS with VCE (AMD's equivalent to Nvidia's NVENC). You can get it here: obsproject.com/forum/threads/obs-branch-with-amd-vce-support.13996/ Can record without performance hit as well (in beta tho). 4. Dxtory with VFW encoder for AMD VCE h264. No performance hit, but probably won't let you record with 60fps (in beta as well): github.com/jackun/openencodevfw 4. Standard Dxtory with the x264vfw codec. Can handle 1080p60fps but you'll experience a huge performance hit.

If you don't have shadowplay, you can always use MSI Afterburner. Gives little to no drop in your framerate and the quality is pretty good. Only problem being that it makes the gamma a bit low in the recording but that can be fixed with a bit of editing.

Nice video, mate, but you forgot to mention a very important thing: Shadowplay records with variable framerate, meaning that the framerate in the video can be anything between 1 - 200 fps. Sony Vegas is about the only video editing software out there that handles variable frame rates. If you are using e.g. Adobe Premiere it will get super confused about this leading to massive audio de-syncronization. To fix this, one most convert the video files using the software Handbrake in order to get a video file with a constant framerate.
@urnamed328 жыл бұрын
Hey man i have the same issue with premiere and it takes so much time to re render in handbrake for me. Does the audio de sync in sony vegas if not i will just stick with it
@Wistbacka8 жыл бұрын
+TürkOyuncu I don't use Vegas myself, but according to another guide Vegas can handle variable framerate. This video pretty much confirms it, since the guy in thr tutorial does not need to convert anything.
@urnamed328 жыл бұрын
Thanks for replying. I will stick with Vegas then! I hope they will add multi channel audio to shadowplay too
@Wistbacka8 жыл бұрын
+TürkOyuncu I highly doubt Nvidia will spend any more time than necessary on that software than they have to since it is freeware. What I miss from the software: - choosing between variable and set frame rates (or at least a note telling me it is variable frame rate) - Better audio controls and mic input-testing - better interface overall
@Skrenja8 жыл бұрын
+Wistbacka I second that. I don't use shadow play because of the lack luster audio options.

I just started using Shadowplay yesterday with my GTX 970 FTW from EVGA and it is amazing! The footage looks great and runs at 60FPS on the HIGH setting. And the game never lags. I'm just amazed it took so long for an option like this to exist. The file sizes for the recordings are pretty small as well and I'm just impressed as all Hell about this. I still love Mirillis Action!, but if Shadowplay is this easy...I might, just MIGHT, not go back to it. But Mirillis Action can still do many other things like screens and benchmarks so I won't completely tell it to go as well. Can also record over 20 minutes. Both are such a good combo.

Pro tip: If you use Vegas and want to stretch any clip to make it slow mo (without using third party plug ins), right click the audio clip, click on Properties and then on "Pitch change" (under "Audio event tab, if it doesn't take you there by default), check the box that says "Lock to stretch". Sony should make that a default setting. Going to try these settings, good thing the render settings are done only once, but it sucks that the rest has to be done manually every time, unless there's a workflow tip someone can give me to automate this process.

For all you video guys... Camtasia is a great app for somebody just looking to use the video they shot with few effects and few options to play with; newbees will be able to get going fast. However, camtasia, like VEGAS, uses a second-based engine, and doesn't care about problems that can arise with VFR, or "Variable Frame Rate" video. KZbin will "automatically" try and fix it, but other sites will not. Overall, capturing gameplay with the same machine that you are using to actually play the game is not necessarily a good idea. I've had better results with a big screen tv set to be a mirror of my other screen and a video camera set to half the game's FPS than I've gotten from shadowplay, and that's just because the VFR problem causes stutter, jitter and blur that drops quality for one section of the video. EXTERNAL hardware is a must if you want to capture your video games, as they can often alter frame rate due to the programmed rendering of the game (some effects or situations in the game will render at a different rate due to how they were programmed to run, often to save on space when the drop doesn't affect the visual quality). Since most pc cards will draw on the PUSH model of framing, most external devices have a software controller that allows you to set their frame rate and mark a checkbox to FORCE that frame rate, which catches the incoming frame rate and makes adjustments for the output on the fly. If you want to capture video that can be uploaded anywhere, play anywhere, and work anywhere, you can't cheap out on hardware. Software, maybe, but not hardware.
