OMG the first half of this video is exactly why I stopped going to the studio...the engineers never have any etiquette. Constantly distracted on their phone, people coming in and out the studio, no type of feedback (I would love a shit sandwich!), no type of direction as to when they are actually recording (there's been times I did perfect takes (to me) and the engineer never pressed record- smh) it was so frustrating so I got my own equipment. Love your videos! You are the best teacher on youtube! THANK YOU

I remember this dude back when I went to a field trip back in 2017 to the college he went to, awesome guy, hella funny, hella talented!!! I told him I wanted to become a producer and write my own music and he was super encouraging and it stuck with me to this day, now I’m learning more and more through classes and people like him on KZbin on how to lay tracks down and all that jazz! Thank you bro for encouraging me bro :)

Ok , as a middle aged man being in studio’s and recording vocals myself , the best producers have done exactly what you said you do ! Thanks again

When recording, definitely use closed ear headphones to reduce feedback in microphone. When Mixing however, it’s best to prevent reflection of sound, so using open back headphones will be the most effective option.

What up manye!!! I obtained an audio engineering degree 9 years ago but unfortunately I didn't get the opportunity to work or intern for any major/semi-major studio. I just did personal projects and a few jobs in home studios. However I went on an audio hiatus for a few years but decided to get back into it a year or so ago. Found your channel and sub'd as soon as I heard you say "Hey Manye"!!! Thanks for freshing my knowledge as well as being able to learn new things from you. ✌🏾

Wavey, Open-back Headphones are almost critical when I record acoustic guitar. I can put the guitar signal through the headphones but I lose all the ambiance of the guitar track and my ability to control how I'm using my pick. I use Open-back Headphones for recording acoustic so I can hear my performance clearly, naturally and in real time. I don't have to record this way but if I'm going for a performance based piece this technique of recording has many advantages.

Appreciate the content man, keep it up. One thing I can say for open back headphones though, is they can be great for mixing if you can't use monitors, or want just want a backup reference, but you're right that they're not good for tracking. If you ever get a chance to check out the Focal Clears or the Audeze LCD-X, you'll be amazed. Kinda hard to explain, but it gives you a sense of space that closed backs can't come close to. It really gives you the illusion of listening to speakers instead of headphones. You can pan something hard left and you'll legit start looking to your left thinking some shit is making a noise on the left side of your room lol, it's real trippy. Again, keep up the great work man!

Open back headphones deff offer a way wider soundstage than closed back. TBH I would prefer open back 9/10 (ESP for mixing!), unless I'm recording to avoid the problems you state. Beardynamic DT 1990 Pro are some of the best reference headphones I've ever used. Closed back ain't even close... just my 2 cents tho, u can keep the change.. lol love tho, love the vids, no hate or anything
