Hey man, great video! I have a Behringer UMC404 and a UMC1820 and I’m thinking of starting to use my iPad mini to do my basic recordings! You’ve probably figured this out since uploading the video, but you said that it is too bad that the EQ isn’t more flushed out. Well, I don’t know if something changed in the last 9 months, but I just wanted to warn you that there is, in fact, an EQ graph just like Logic! It’s just a little bit more hidden
@DrumElectric Жыл бұрын
That’s amazing!! I haven’t seen that since making this video, so what an incredible discovery! Where abouts is it?
@diogotabreu Жыл бұрын
@@DrumElectric Just a warning, there is an EQ graph, but with only 3 editing "balls". You have to choose the track, open track settings (the button next to the FX one), then you'll see a taab saying "plug-ins and EQ". If you choose it, it will open new tabs, in which you'll find "visual EQ". Sorry for the 2 weeks delay

Could you please show us the connections? Great video man
@DrumElectric Жыл бұрын
Connections wise, for this video I'm just using the USB-B output of the Focusrite 18i20 to USB-C cable straight into the iPad. Simple as that!

could you do the same with logic pro for ipad?
@DrumElectricАй бұрын
Yes! Logic is the grown-up version of GarageBand
@Mr_ToR29 күн бұрын
focusrite 18i20 has 4 revisions or generations of devices. Which one are you using? Or simply which year was your device built?
@DrumElectric29 күн бұрын
There’s 4 now! Wow. I’m still using the 2nd Generation, like in this video, but the new ones should still do exactly the same thing!

How are you outputting the iPad audio to your headphones when playing along to a song or a click track? Bluetooth headphones always throw terrible latency when I’m trying to record but it doesn’t look like you are getting any. Any help or insight is appreciated 🙏🏻
@DrumElectricАй бұрын
For this video, I just plugged into the headphone output of the audio interface. There is slight latency, which is normal for audio interfaces, but none that affects the playing or recording ability!

What about electronic drums, so I want to use multitrack for my electronic drums, how do you do that? Any ideas?
@DrumElectric Жыл бұрын
I would just take the outputs from your electric kit and put them through the audio interface if you wanted to do something similar to this video. If you just want the kit, then you could get something like an 'iRig' and go straight into the iPad without having to buy a whole audio interface

how can I split in different channels my roland e drum kit? is it possible? great job man, thanks a lot.
@DrumElectric8 ай бұрын
I’m not sure exactly as I don’t have one to hand, but my presumption would be to send the bass drum out of output 1, snare output 2, etc on your module and then put them in the separate inputs of the audio interface. Some kits might let you do this with USB, but I presume you’d need a laptop for that

Whats the Name of the app on the i pad you are using here? I have boughr an i pad pro and I also want recording drums. Whatr app is the best? 🤔
@DrumElectric Жыл бұрын
I am using the app 'GarageBand' in this video. I've not explored other recording apps on the iPad yet, so I've only got experience with this one so far!

As someone who also owns an 18i20 and an Octopre with a large drum kit... I hope the crackle can be figured out. Is it possible this could be done with an iPhone? Is your iPad a Lightning Bolt or USB-C?
@DrumElectric2 жыл бұрын
I agree! It seems like a CPU thing, so the newer iPads may be able to handle it. My iPad is USB-C, so I’m not sure if this could be done with a lightning into iPhone because of the data transfer. Definitely something to try though!

Hello, can you film/video with the ipad while recording with this setup?
@DrumElectric2 жыл бұрын
Great question! I’m not sure if you can simultaneously (so iPad recording video at the same time as GarageBand recording in the background), but if you had a phone recording video and then the iPad recording the audio, you definitely could!

Hi, thank you very much for the video, it's very helpful! I own an Ipad pro and I' m thinking to buy an audio interface like the one you mention in the video (scarlett 18i20). I'd like to use it to record a full band playing live (drums or percussions with 4 mics and the others instruments with the rest inputs) but I have some questions: first of all can my ipad pro generation 2 record simultaneously 8 tracks or will I have problems with that? If i have latency in the recording i'll just move the tracks on garageband in order to make them sound together in time? Is it possible to direct monitoring through the headphones for every musician (3 or 4 maybe)? I see that in the rear panel there are many outputs, so I'll plug 2 headphones in the front and the others in the rear panel. On the front i can set the volume using the lever but for the rear i see that i can control the volume just through the app "focusrite control". Is it possibile to use the app on the ipad to assign the channel and the volumes of the headphones while garageband is working? I'm asking you because i don't have a laptop or mac, so i'd like to know if with just the ipad i can record a live band playing in a studio. It can be possible that the piano is digital and bass or guitar enters directly with the cable in the interface without the amplifier, that's why I'm asking you of multiple headphones. If everything is played acoustically there'll be no problems of this. And do you think the volume and the latency through the headphones while recording is ok or do I need an amplifier for the headphones? Do you recommend me this interface for or do you suggest a different one (with more or less the same budget) for recording a live band with just an ipad? I hope you can help me, thank you for your time and for the super quality of your contents! Davide
@DrumElectric Жыл бұрын
Thanks so much Davide! So in answer to your questions: I didn't have any issues with the iPad recording all 8 tracks simultaneously and it's a relatively old iPad now, so you should be fine. I didn't have any issues with latency. I don't think it's possible to have mixes for every musician sadly. As there's no dedicated focusrite app for the iPad to control it, I can't see it being possible. The Focusrite Control app is Mac/Windows only I believe. In the video, I had my headphones through the headphone output of the 18i20, but didn't check the second output. This interface is a great one for the price and for what you get. I've used it for years without any issues at all and it's still going great! I'm not sure how easy it'll be to record your band all at once with the iPad. But you could definitely record each instrument one at a time without issues. I hope this helps!
