The guitarist should not have been switching pickups if we wanted to hear an accurate comparison. At minute 3:15 ... the guitarist is using the bridge pickup on his Stratocaster as the narrator is saying that a microphone in the center position will give you a brighter sound. (Well of course it’s gonna sound brighter, he’s using the bridge pickup) Then when he moves the mic to the right side of speaker, the guitarist switches to the neck pick up which sounds a lot “warmer” or “smoother”. The narrator in this instance says “now the guitar will sound smoother” (well of course it is, the guitarist switched to the neck pickup) I would have rather had the guitarist stay on the same pickup to better compare the difference in microphone position. I am not throwing any hate, whatsoever. I’m a proud Neumann microphone owner. The TLM102 and KM184 are amazing!

Hi Jorge, thanks for your feedback. In principle you are absolutely right. However, the video is not set up as a comparison here, but rather as a sound example: Which microphone position is better for which style and for which sound. Greetings!

I noticed that as well. That is NOT an honest way to state a point even if it's true. I am now curious what's the actual difference in microphone position.

you dont need the amp noise play in to a looper and let the looper work so its play something through the amp and now play with the mic position

What I do to help find a good mike position if I'm recording alone is use a looper pedal. I just play a part of the song and loop it, and then use the headphones to find a mic position that sounds good. Then I do a test recording to see if that mic position is gelling with the other instruments.

Thanks for your great suggestion, but I prefer so much the binaural sound provided by KU 100 'dummy head', infact I use it since 2001 for almost all my recordings, not only for testing..!! ;) [several examples on my humble channel] So, thanks forever to Neumann and to his astounding KU 100, for having done me a very very happy man!!! :)))

If ur guitar is loud enough u won’t get much of the feedback. And a lil feedback is unavoidable and tbh kinda essential to the sound of a tube amp

Hi, you should be able to make the white noise more audible by turning up the gain. We hope this helps! 🙂

What did you change on the amp to get the background noise? You just turned volume all the way up?
@GeorgNeumannGmbH
@GeorgNeumannGmbH 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Jeremy, the volume on your amp will actually only control your perceived output volume, which does play a factor when miking up the amp. However, try adjusting the gain to add more background noise. Hope this helps!
