This YT channel has major lext level info, but this gentleman has the best quality music of all the musically oriented channels I've subbed to, BAR NONE , hands down. Well written, excellent radio ready production, All the bells & whistles , but just THE SONGS are such good , inviting, hook filled gems, it's insane, I'm sure there's all kinds of comments that say as much , I'm just expressing my opinion

I just stumbled across ur channel. I watched the first and second video pertaining to recording vocals and harmonizing. I like the way you explained it and went into detail. I been making beats for almost three years. So I’m just soaking up all the gems and jewels I can. Combine that with countless hours. And I’m making progress. I say that because, I want to support those who have contributed to my progress. Thanks. I’m tuned in…..

Great informative video. Q . Do you consider your harmonies to be the bkgrnd vox? Q. Have you ever thought of recording the harmony track once, duplicating that track 3 more times, one track add a 3rd step above or below, one track add a 5th above or below, one track add 1 octave above and the last track one octave below. Saves one from recording multiple tracks but ends with the same result- each tracks sounding a slight bit different (like a normal voice). I use Ableton Live 12. Thanks for sharing. ✌❤
@IAMLXGEND
@IAMLXGEND 5 ай бұрын
1. My harmonies are background vox. 2. Duplicating the track doesn’t give the same effect as recording unique vocal takes. So I never duplicate. It needs the nuance of the subtle differences in each recording.

Your videos are so helpful. Im alittle confused about harmonies though. What’s the difference between octave stacking and harmonies?
@IAMLXGEND
@IAMLXGEND 3 жыл бұрын
An octave is the same as a single note only in the higher or lower register. Think a low bass singer vs a high soprano. They can both sing the same note but the bass player will sing it in the lower octave (same note, lower register) and the soprano sings it in the higher one (same note, higher register). It’s just a way of saying that. If you have think about a scale, there are 8 notes within a scale. An example of an octave would be the first and last notes within that scale. Recording octave stacks means recording both the higher and lower registers of the note in whatever you’re recording. And Harmonies are harmonies.
@tsmith1855
@tsmith1855 3 жыл бұрын
@@IAMLXGEND Thanks so much! It turns out octaves are what I thought harmonies were this whole time. just so I’m clear, could you define a harmony like you did the octave?
@IAMLXGEND
@IAMLXGEND 3 жыл бұрын
It’s just any other note in a chord that goes together. Octave being a same note just in another register, a harmony is simply: another note added to an existing one.

I do have a doubt. Do I record my vocals and then applying my plug-ins? or Do I need to have my vocal template ready and then record my vocals?
@IAMLXGEND
@IAMLXGEND 2 жыл бұрын
The reason You are applying plugins in the first place is to fix what the vocals Sound like. You don’t know what the vocals sound like until You record them. So while you can add plugins before you record… you’re gonna have to readjust them anyway after recording. So just add them after recording.

@@IAMLXGEND which works, but what is the ideal setup?
@IAMLXGEND
@IAMLXGEND 3 жыл бұрын
Wouldn’t help. It’s the idea that your voice is being played to you through a source that isn’t yourself. This is why it still throws at least me off. And why you see a lot of singers on tour or performing take out their earpiece because they’d rather hear the sound live in person. Same situation here.

Question, how do you figure out what octaves do you use for each stack? And for the dubs, do you usually sing and octave higher
@IAMLXGEND
@IAMLXGEND 3 жыл бұрын
Figuring out what octaves depends entirely on both your vocal range, which type of singing voice you want to do it in (full voice, head voice, chest voice) and how well you’re able to sing it in your range. If you want it to sound powerful, loud, and strong, sing in whatever octave is your range. If you want it to sound quieter or more gentle, sing in your head voice. If you want a mix of both, sing in your chest voices whatever octaves come from that, your choice. If you’re referring to knowing what NOTES to sing (octaves are just higher and lower ranges and aren’t necessarily notes), I’m going to make a video that explains how to find harmonies.

Not sure what you mean by pushed to the left. If you mean my talking vocals in this video panned then no. That’s a software issue with the stream recorder I was using at the time. If you mean my actual microphone being off screen and to the left then yes.

The character of the voice....
@IAMLXGEND
@IAMLXGEND 3 жыл бұрын
You’re overthinking it. Just record the same exact thing four times, and sing every single part exactly the same, as similar as you can. That’s the entire goal. Record it 4 times the exact same way. There’s nothing you have to do to make it different. Your imperfections as a human automatically do that.

How many of layers of each Harmony should someone add?
@IAMLXGEND
@IAMLXGEND 3 жыл бұрын
If you mean how many stacks per note in the harmony: multiples of 2. (2, 4, 6, 8, 16 etc). How many depends on you and what sound you personally want to achieve. But you have to pan them evenly & accordingly to still achieve “surround sound”.
