How to record with 120 fps in OBS. [with my settings]

This should be very simple and straight forward, give it a try if your pc is strong enough.
alternately for bitrate in recording CQP at 18 or 16 is something you can try if you want to do lossless.

Nice info I didn't know you could've changed the FPS..lol. I have a RX580 so I never really changed the 60 fps. I just figured that obs will make it work.

Bro sixty frames was awful when i made it 120 on recording it became smooth and i think that is going to make the videos much better

I get this message and it fails. Your broadcast software (obs-studio] sent an invalid value for Frame Rate (120.00) to GetClientConfiguration provided by Twitch Enhanced Supported values are: 24, 25. 30, 48, 50, or 60.

turn off TTV enhance and it should work just fine if your pc can handle it. if you want to stream dont bother doing this as TTV doesnt support 120 fps

how can you know if you’re pushing too hard without frying the gpu? What would be a good gpu for recording CQP 25 1080p at 120fps? I have an intel i7 with a rtx 3060 and nvem 1tb ssd drive. Only want to record 1mi replays (highlights) to edit later.

Don't use cqp unless you have 2,3 tb of storage I recommend vbr. And for the 120fps you just need to test on your pc aswel as check the gpu temp and clocks while playing

you wont fry your gpu it has protections in it so it wont draw more than 180 watts for the 3060 and will only get to around 92 c before downclocking or crashing/shutting off if it goes above that

Im not sure why because with my old weaker laptop with a 1060 recording on frames higher than 60 was fine, but then I when I do the same thing with my pc that has a 5700xt it cant record or it will straight up not save the recording or just make it super laggy

maybe the settings in obs are too high or youve got a pc bottle neck?. also AMD from what i remember dont have really optimized Encoders (Nvenc/Nvenc new From Nvidia)

do you know how to fix not being able to trim clips when clipping anything over 60fps? I use movies and TV to trim, i also tried clipchamp, but it just sits there and loads the whole time, and never is able to trim it.

@zawarust I use shotcut, but check your video editing apps and see if can change the fps when editing to a higher value

I have been searching on a lot of videos on how to reduce lag, they have only worked partially though. I will try your ideas, if they do not work for me I would like to hopefully receive an answer to this problem, the game that I record runs really well, but when I review the recording it runs at what I am assuming is thirty or forty frames per second.

@Anihary if it's obs then it's usually encoding overload but if it's media player or vlc then it can be a few other issues but along as it works are your happy with the results is all that matters

Question: Don't you need H.265 codec to recrod 120fps? I thought you can't do it on H.264

You can record on anything as long as your pc is somewhat capable and stable when recording.

i was told in another video that for nvidia users CQP is better for Rate Control then CBR, what are your thoughts?

Cqp is "better" with any card, but it uses substantially more storage when recording.. it's less compressed and is closer to lossless, but if you don't mind a bit of compression and want to save space on storage, use CBR. I'd recommend you try either or but I currently use VBR between 50k-90k for 1440p 120fps recordings

@@N4feYT sorry to treat you like my personal helper but I'm having trouble with my recordings, namely replay buffer that I cant figure out. Whenever I record with 60 FPS on OBS with higher FPS in game, like 144-300, the recording is extremely choppy. When I set my ingame fps to 60 it does get better but that is not good for fps games. I tried turning up the integer FPS value to match but I still get massive freezes in my recordings using replay buffer. any idea what the issue could be? i have a 3060ti

@AP1million if have to mess around with all your setting from games graphics to the obs settings... it's safest to record 1080p 60fps rather than going crazy if your experiencing any lagg

Recording in 120 fps is way more intensive on your pc adjust your settings to what will work with the game you play. This includes your cpu if you've got a cpu bottle neck

When I try these settings the video hangs on playback. The frames are recorded but will not playback smoothly with any player and transcoding does not help. Not sure what the issue could be. My system is more than capable and I’m using AMD hardware encoding

If you're using Windows media player, try watching in window full screen and not full-screen itself. For me it helps reduce the lag

Hey, quick question, I played on a phone a really good pen asus rog pro 6, I ‘ve streaming at 60 fps, but my phone has the capacity to get up to 120 fps, so you know if it’s possible for me to play at 120 fps but the stream on KZbin stay at 60 fps?what i am trying to ask if my fps on my phone can be different from my stream in KZbin? KZbin always displays an error but if your setup can handle it then it should be fine to stream at 120fps

I don't know if this works with the replay buffer but I do not see a reason why it shouldn't. I don't personally use obs replay buffer

i have an i9 9900k and a 2060 super, i play high quality on mw2 and record fine with nvidia but the mic quality is terrible so i prefer obs to record, my cpu isnt high and neither is my gpu... why am i sitll skipping frames
