Curious....I have a lightning iPhone camera adapter with just a USB adapter. When I plug in the usb from the yeti to the camera adapter and then into my phone, it powers on the Yeti. Wondering why you need the extra USB port? The iPhone seems to power the yeti just fine without an external power source. Is it just to conserve iPhone battery power or is there another reason? Thanks 🙏

Thanks Jeff. I believe it will work for live streaming. Reason being is that once you have the microphone connected the phone would automatically use the external source to pick up audio just as in video recording. If you would like I can test it out and let you know.

What difference does the 4 port hub make? Can’t you just connect the Yeti cord straight to the lighting? Thanks for your time.
@yikes7607

It's because the iPhone does not have enough power to feed the Yeti so it works properly. If you notice at 1:02 he plugged the USB power adaptor to a power outlet, it's not a regular USB hub. (Although I wonder if a regular USB hub would work too if connected to a powerbank and then all devices to it.)

With my iPhone 11 Pro Max I was able to use the usb a to lightning adapter without power input, and it did work. Occasionally the message would pop up on my screen that it was using too much power. I now have the one where I can also input lightning from the power source. (I noticed with my iPhone SE particularly had a lot of issues without a power source.) Now I have an iPhone 12 mini and I can stream live, and record audio, and it works perfectly, I haven’t had any issues at all. The additional USB with the power input is an interesting thought as certain apps my audio and video will be out of sync at higher resolutions. Other app it is fine as I have a strong Internet connection. I hope this helps!

Thanks for the video! Quick question, when you upload to KZbin, isn't the sound quality still poorly affected because you're uploading it as one single file and therefore the compressing makes the audio worse? At the moment I record my audio and video separately, and then put them together in a video editing software, then upload to KZbin. Using your method in this video, can I just upload it directly to KZbin and the sound will be fine? The compressing won't ruin it? Sorry, I'm not much of a techie...
@YuriyMotso
@YuriyMotso 3 жыл бұрын
if you are trying to do live than I am not sure. But if you are recording the sound with the video together the quality is not very significantly altered. You can look at a few of my videos as I used this method for recording my stuff as my channel was growing and the audio is sufficient that most people will not notice. My current recording style is much different as I use a Gopro at the moment and I am not capable of using the Yeti mic for the current content. I do use the Yeti in post when I am doing a voice over. If you want to make your life easier than this method of recording with the mic directly to the cell phone is the way to go especially when your content is not heavily reliant on sound quality.

When editing, I used the audio from the cropped video During that short few seconds when I was demonstrating with snapping my fingers. Because I record my voice over with the same Mic it seems like one continuous audio clip but it’s two separate but spliced audio clips.

Make sure you have the correct Lightning adapter, the wider one that says Lightning to USB-C "Camera" Adapter. If it's the skinny version that doesn't say "camera" it won't work because that one is only for powering the phone from USB-C sources and does not pass through data.
@dvalward
@dvalward 3 жыл бұрын
@@yikes7607 I was actually able to use my mic with the adapter with just the Lightning on one end and the USB on the other (plugged my mic into this end). What I noticed is that without using the mic, the playback has an echo sound to it.

@swancrowzen7662
@swancrowzen7662 3 жыл бұрын
The phone itself doesn’t always know with the lightning being plugged into the bottom of it is an input or an output, the order that you plug the devices together can also affect whether it works or not. So I would try that if you’re not getting any sound out of the microphone. Once that is working, it all depends on what you’re using it for. If you are live streaming for example your iPhone XR will have to work harder to keep your audio and video in sync. (The solution would be then either an Ethernet input to speed up you connection or streaming at a lower video resolution).If you’re doing a pre-recording and then editing and software and then uploading to KZbin for example that will be easier on the device. If you’re experiencing a lot of echo and not latency issues, I would tried adjusting the dials on the back of the mic, the room you are in will have an effect too as the amp on this mic is strong, or using garage band to record your audio where you can adjust the echo. Good luck!!!
