How To Recover Your Lost or Crashed DJI Mini 3 Pro - Find My Drone

In this tutorial, we are showing you how you can find your lost or crashed DJI Mini 3 Pro drone using the DJI find my drone tool. The "Find My Drone" feature works on all controllers and functions the same for most DJI drones. When you launch the "find my drone" feature within the DJI Fly App it can pinpoint on a map the last known location of your Mini 3 Pro even if the drone is powered off. The find my drone tool also offers features such as beeping, flashing, live camera feed, and battery level information to help you recover your lost DJI Mini 3 Pro.

This video just saved me over $1k. I lost my drone 2 days ago at night. Unbeknownst to me it hit a very tall tree and fell into the thickest brush I've ever been in. I used this feature that you highlight in this video and boom... It was found. It took a weed eater, a pole saw, hedge trimmers, my two sons, my dog and me just to get to it... All this in 90 degree Savannah, Georgia heat. I would have never found it. Thank you! This mini 3 pro is a beast! It hit the tree and fell 50 ft, baked in the sun, sat in the 3 hour long thunderstorm we had, then baked in the sun the following day... And EVERYTHING still works!

I had an incident a few days ago where my drone clipped a small tree limb directly behind me on a return to home. The drone fell in to a thicket of blackberry bushes not more than 3 feet away from where I was seated on a bench. The drone tumbled to the center of these bushes and could not be seen. The beeping feature told me yes the drone is in here. Ha, do you think I could see it? No way! The flashing feature was working but the drone was so deep in the bushes that I had to “dig” through the brambles to finally find and retrieve it. Got the drone arms full of scratches. Lesson: Make sure my home point is well out in the open away from trees and blackberry bushes! 🤯 Thanks for your work!

Good point made, I fly off a bench in a park that’s hardly used and there are bushes behind it. On return to home ( my favourite way of bringing my drone back) I interrupt it while in the final approach and manual land so as to avoid the bushes. Yes it would be a pain if it landed in them.

Can’t thank you enough. I was doing a long Hyperlapse with my DJI mini3 Pro. The RC controller warned the drone was running out of battery power and it forced a landing. I could not see where it landed because I was flying at night over an intersection near my location but not directly overhead. I didn’t know how to access the “find my drone” setting on the controller until watching your video. Luckily I had my iPad with me and was able to watch your video find my drone. Lesson learned! If I fly again at night, I’ll always attach a strobe light, so I can more easily find and or track my DJI.

I can attest that it works... I 'lost' my drone today and using this feature I found it. It was on the roof of a building but I was able to retrieve it with some help. It does not appear to be damaged. I did learn about activating the camera from your video. Unfortunately my drone battery was totally dead so that wouldn't have helped. Lesson learned: be very careful how far away you fly when your battery is low. Question, do the satellite maps need to be downloaded? I got a message says 'no other maps were available'. Thanks for your videos they are very helpful.

I actually lost connection with my drone when flying at night but it managed to return to home by itself , although I moved away from starting point in the meantime. It landed successfully and although I couldn't see it in the dark, beeping and flashing function helped a lot in retrieving it. I think that biggest problems with connection during flying drones are darkness and sandy beach during low tide with ideally flat sandy surface (even worse than body of water). Best conditions would be flying away from the city in the meadows or small hills with grazed grass :)

Major incident yesterday flew over water and used 25% thought no prob coming back however it was into wind and only managing about 13mph , no chance I'd get back so found nearest land drone was about a mile away, beacon function worked a treat and found drone no damaged and didn't even need activate beeping

Thanks but if my drone was lost a km away , by time I got to gps coordinates Of drone . The find my drone flashing and beeping is useless as it will definatly power down with in 5 mins of been on ground due to it overheating . No fan inside since hairy all the tech crammed in mini 3 it would weigh more than 250 grams and there for not be in the same class of drone . The gps feature s good to know though . Thanks

Great video. On Saturday I decided to risk my dron flying it 10 more seconds after I got the low battery warning and decided to cancel the return to home option. So my drone made an emergency landing like 400 mts away in a small town so I was actually lucky of getting it back. It landed on a street so it could’ve gotten run over by a car or stolen by someone. I didn’t know exactly what to do but I did find the find my drone option. I’m guessing I’ll buy an air take just to have another way of getting it back in case it happens again.

My drone was flying on the master shots mode and went into trees. I can’t see the location on my controller like you show here. The screen shows the gps coordinates but won’t locate on the map like this. It also won’t show me the last picture. I’m unsure if it’s faulty or if I’m missing something.

@air photography Thank you so much for this video, what an amazing help as I'm having issues with my DJI mini3Pro and been worried that I might need some help finding the thing. Not happy with it but maybe you can help me. So, when I fly my mini3Pro some distance about 1/2 mile, and over forest, even when the forest is only the top of a hill where I'm in the valley and the drone stops, the screen locks, and it says that I need to adjust the antennas, which my mini3 controller does not have. The drone is literally only about 300-400' from me but above a forest at the top of a hill that I'm at the foot. Thoughts on how to fix this situation. For background I observe livestock, inventory, and want to go down below the tree line on top of the hill or at the back valley ravine where the feeders are and go down and look in the feeder to see if I need to take feed there. Also, I'm not above buying a controller that has antennas IF they will work with the DJI mini3Pro AND connect as easy as the mini3Pro controller and function similar or better? Many thanks for this video (as of the moment I might need it) and for your help on this problem I have spoken of. For reference I have spoken at length with DJI Support (a joke unfortunately) and their answer is to send it back, which I can't do at the moment as I need some videos of livestock and assets that are all over the several hundred acres I want to patrol and manage.

Yeah, it’s a tough situation. There’s many things that can cause interference, including vegetation, and foliage. Leaves and foliage have high water content, which can really block rc signals. By chance are you regulated by CE or FCC? The CE version is a lot weaker than the FCC version and the range is not as far.

Shawn another great video, thank you. Though I saw this two days too late 🤗. Having followed your tutorials earlier I could still trace and find mind drone at a cost. Allow me to tell you my experience and ask for your help. I recently bought a mini 3 pro, I am loving it after having lost two mini mavics…. One dived into Eagean sea and the second dropped to the parking lot, both while they were in RTH mode…. Anyway. The mini pro 3 was only 700 meters away and at an altitude of 80 meters, nicely flying over the forest. I was warned and I pushed the RTH button again but in about a minute I had THE RC CONNECTION IS LOST! the icon turned red and I was left hopeless, the drone had 14 minutes of battery left and I was panicking… Then I told myself to keep calm and remembered your advice about the “find my drone” function, I found it but still ignorant which was me and which was the drone? Confused and panicking as the lost time was reaching the battery’s RIP level I figured out that blue dot was me, the little arrow my direction and that the line connecting me to the arrow was my path for rescuing the drone. The battery was finally empty but the RC was leading me right into the dense forest and up to the steep hill. Here I had to cross a creek and… I dropped the RC into the water 😱 I immediately picked it up, shook it to rinse the water, luckly it worked and it took me to the spot where my mini pro 3 was waiting for me with a minor bruise, thanks to many branches which must have slowed down the fall. Immediately after returning home I put the RC into a kilo of rice to take the moisture away, I fixed the minor dent on the drone and tested both with succes, the drone was working perfectly however the RC was unstable after 5 or 6 minutes later, the battery level suddenly showing almost empty. I secured a safe landing turned both off and dumped the RC back into the rice. Sorry for taking so much of your time, now my questions and my requests for your advice: 1. What could have happened for the sudden loss of contact with the drone and RC? 2. Why would not the drone come back to it’s home position? 3. How can I make sure that the RC is safe and reliable for future flights? 4. No matter when, as soon as my drones fly close to 1 km I get the “adjust antennas, low signal!” I am so scared to fly this last one 🥺

I’m not sure what would’ve caused the loss of signal especially if you’re flying in a forest area there shouldn’t be a lot of interference. Could’ve just been a glitch. Keep an eye on that if it does it again I would contact DJI. As for the controller once you’ve let it dried out thoroughly, just do a couple control tests and if you don’t notice any issues then it should be fine after that. If not you may have to send it to DJI for repair. Thanks for sharing your adventure

Not if you’re connected to cellular. But you can pre-download Mabs if you wish, but it is not necessary you can fly without any connection or Maps

Usually it will show you in the map, the last known location. In that case you’ll just have to get out and search for it to see if you can locate it.
