How to relight the pilot on the gas furnace

This one covers how to light the pilot on the gas furnace. This video is part of the heating and cooling series of training videos made to accompany my websites: www.graycoolingman.com and www.grayfurnaceman.com to pass on what I have learned in many years of service and repair. If you have suggestions or comments they are welcome.
If you are a homeowner looking to repair your own appliance, understand that the voltages can be lethal, the fuels are highly flammable and high pressures are used. Know your limits.

Owning a home is daunting for a single woman, but this single woman has videos like this to help her. It took me a couple of views to figure it out but once I paid closer attention I got it done in no time. Thanks so much!!!!!

I'm in my 20s in an older rental with an elderly landlady who works with us on rent if we help out with some small repairs - i am frequently out of my depth, and my dad passed away a little over a year ago so I can't ask him for help. this video showed the exact valve we need and let me get heat back on the coldest day we've had in months. thank you!

I've literally watched a dozen videos trying to get this damn thing lit. Yours is the first that actually showed what to do beyond pressing the pilot knob, and you did it without a 22 minute intro! I was trying to light the wrong place, based on terrible instructions in other videos. Your video had me follow the correct line, and everything went fine after that. You have instantly made my life better, and my wife happier. Thank you!

THANK YOU!!! I'm currently looking at replacing both my furnace and A/C, but for some reason the pilot on the old furnace went out on me. (Guess I should never talk about replacing old equipment around it... just like computers.) Your video helped me get it back on "life support" again. If you were located in my area and weren't retired, I'd be asking you to quote on the job. Thank you again from a VERY grateful (and slowly warming up) homeowner!

Extremely helpful video. I was jamming a lighter into the holes where the air intake is. Apparently I'm one of those people that thought if I got a lighter in there and waved it around while holding the button down it would magically work. But that's not how it works... you actually have to get the lighter near this piece of metal where the gas comes out.

If the pilot won't stay lit, a professional was nice enough to tell me by email that most of the time it means your thermocouple is dirty. It was my first time attempting to clean it and I was successful. All you need is a thin, stiff brush to scrub at it. Scrub for a nice amount of time. Now there's no yellow in my furnace's flames (the pro said you want blue flames). Mine stays lit now (whew) with no expensive repairman visit. I hope this helps someone.

When I was a kid my grandmother had a wall unit. Wasn't central air type, just one blower unit, but it would keep the whole front part of the house warm. 700sqft or so probably. I recently purchased a house built in 1960 with a Chrysler Airtemp unit [model 4208-32, serial 2G510559...anybody got a wiring diagram?]. The AC compressor outside was replaced recently but the original heater and blower remain. In the pre-purchase inspection, the inspector noted that he could not get the heater to come on. It's been almost 40 years since I've had to turn on a pilot light to a gas heater for my grandmother. I remembered having to turn the button, press it down and hold it, light the pilot, and keep it pressed for about a minute. What I forgot was having to turn it back to the "on" position. Two days ago the temperature dropped to the low 40s. Tonight this video reminded me I have to turn the switch back and lo, poof, on it went! I am feeling so hot right now! (⌐■_■)
