How to Remove a Castle Nut without a Wrench

Just make sure to use enough tape or else your channel locks/locking pliers will bite through into the metal. You want to grip the nut just enough to get it to rotate or else you run the risk of your channel locks/locking pliers squashing and deforming it.

Also works with a pipe wrench … you can lay the lower on a stool, set on it so the grip is under your leg, if you do not have a vice and your castle nut was torqued a little to tight … I have used the same method for removing the flash hider and replacing it with a linear compensator … but both of those use a 3/4 inch wrench …

And that will damage the threads on the buffer tube and castle nut if it's properly staked. The proper way to remove a staked castle nut is to a) PUT THE DAM THING IN A VICE! b) using a drift punch and hammer, in one whack strike the castle nut in the direction to loosen. Once past the staking you can remove the nut by hand. DO NOT do what this kid is showing you.

No 👎 i just use a piece 8th inch steel drill to buffer diameter then slide it over buffer and mark where your tabs will cut them out weld to handle and bingo bango no need to spend a grant on a wrench 😅,albeit you need to be slightly capable and careful to not scratch your shit up
