Random Bystander ya basically someone throws there line back and the hook lands on you like your arm or leg and the person casting their line isnt expecting it. so they swing there fishing rod and most people use quite a bit of force to do so, and the hook gets embedded deep in your thigh or forearm or calf

I got toothpick (yes I know it has no barb so it's piece of cake to pull out if compared to a hook etc) into my arm don't ask me how it's stupid but it got in fast so I didn't even realize it went into my arm and it scared me that I didn't feel anything for few seconds then it got sore. but again getting it in fast is nothing to compare with what this guy did but in real situation it would probably be really fast. On the last method, it's not a quick jerk to get it out. You simply apply hard pressure to open the entry hole large enough to make room for the barb to back out without snagging. The positioning of the hook disengages the barb and the back pressure opens the channel. I'm a paramedic and this video does a spectacular job of demonstrating how tough human skin can be. I've bent needles trying to start IV's on some old farmers.

Right on Chris. The key is back pressure, which he doesn't demonstrate and thus the fail. If the point of the hook has not come out of the skin the line method does by far the least damage in my opinion. Only problem with it is that you need help.

I have worked ER for nearly 5yrs and we still use the string/fishing line method. We often have the hook out before we could get people admitted into the computer system. We put pressure not just on eyelet but a little higher up as well. We also tie the line to the hook instead of a loop. We have gotten 2/0 up to 8/0 out this way. Looked like maybe not enough pressure was applied to hook to release barb. You definitely need someone not afraid to apply pressure else it will not work. Either way great video. I know several people say push through and cut off barb but that is often unnecessary unless the hook has almost already passed through.
