Save your money and use a poor man's golf club grip remover to save that grip! Easy way to remove a golf club grip from a shaft without damaging the grip. Allows you to save the grip and use it again. Great for shaft trimming when you don't want to replace the grip.

This worked exactly as demonstrated and i was able to salvage a brand new grip on a club that I should’ve never put on in the first place. Saved the grip, saved about $10 and saved me a trip to Golf Galaxy. Had the salvaged grip on my driver in another 5 minutes. Genius method!

After watching all the videos using compressed air, grip removal tools, needle-injection for the solvent, etc., I decided to give your method a try. All I can say is thank you. I just finished removing two grips using your method. Thanks for saving me $42 for a grip removal tool and saving me another $25 I would have had to spend to buy a new NFL putter grip. I wasn't as good or fast as you were, but it certainly works and it's worth the effort. Much appreciated :-)

Many thanks from Australia too! I've been upgrading my old set with newer second-hand clubs and as new clubs but each time have needed to replace standard grip with mid-sized. Often now, I just just swap over saving the as new standard grips to put onto my old set. This will save quite a bit of time and money. I love being able to DIY at home. Thanks again, you're a champion!!! 💪😎

OMG! Worked so easy! Took me less than 3 minutes to remove a grip from my Odyssey putter. Went down an inch, poured in paint thinner...pushed in little further and a dash of thinner...little more...dash of thinner...twisted the hangar around the shaft and could feel it breaking the bond. I do not have a vice so I put the putter head between my feet and I swear to you...that grip slid off like it was on butter! Thank you!! If I ever see you in a bar....I’m buying!

This worked great for me and I didn't need a vise. I was actually going to use the bent hanger just to get some solvent down the lower end of the shaft and then use an air compressor to blow the grip off. Within less than half a minute I had worked the wire down the length of the grip, squirting a few drops of solvent as it went and I was able to simply twist and slide the grip off undamaged. Thanks! I won't need to look at using compressed air any more.

Just used this method to remove a Superstroke Slim 3.0... what a pain, but it worked! Much more difficult because there is very little play in this type of grip hence you don't get much separation from the shaft to get the hanger and solvent down to the butt.

I wish I found this link 5 grips ago and a full set getting cut off cause I didn't want to pay $5-7 a grip to be saved. I could have pulled them my self. I was using an air compressor, but that only successfully works on certain types of grips. It will blow bubbles and ruin most multi-compound grips. This worked perfectly for 2 different types of grips. Kudos!!! Use a little more solvent and it makes the job SO much easier!!

I did this last night and used the grip solvent as stated. I took the grips off without any damage. Very easy. I took a clothes hanger and bend it in the middle and then bent a 90 degree about a foot up. I took duck tape and taped it together but the tape came off after the 4th grip. It worked just as good. Once I got about half way down I added more solvent and finished twisting the grip until it was loose. Then I put my foot on the club and just pulled the grip off. Saved almost $100 in new grips

@XJSimulations

I always remove the old tape from the shaft before installing a grip. If you leave the old tape on the shaft, it can change the feel of the grip. There is a difference between one or two layers of tape under a grip. Hands are very sensitive to feel and it will make a difference.

Hum, maybe I should start selling the Golfing Idiots Grip Remover. It will just happen to look like a wire clothes hanger. Glad I could help!

Tried it on a lamkin gel grip. Came off ok but wouldn't stick to new shaft. Seemed like it got stretched out and slid on way too easy. Any suggestions?

Sometimes adhesive and/or tape will stick to the inside of the grip. A small bristle brush can be used to clean the inside of the grip along with some mineral spirits.

If you cannot get the technique in this video to work, you may want to look at purchasing a grip remover. Check the following link for information: www.golfworks.com/the-golfworks-v-groove-grip-remover/p/VGGR/

Yes, I have that grip remover tool but still can't get the grip loose. The grip is very inflexible at the bottom not allowing the tool enough room to get very much paint thinner down into the grip. Thanks

I would recommend using mineral spirits instead of paint thinner. Try and work the remover toward the bottom back and forth or round and round adding a little more mineral spirits each time. I've had luck that way. :)
