Or, you could just make a bunch of holes with a paddle bit, and poor Epsom salt over it. It'd go away in a month, or so, depending on the climate you live in.

I've done epsom salt and it does work well on green trees and shrub roots. But on a dry old stump like the one pictured it takes YEARS to break down. I just cleared some mulberry tree roots that still had a rock hard trunk above ground after 3 years!
