In this video I show you all the steps and tools needed to remove an engine cover from your 2.5L volkswagen. This engine and engine cover is used on MK5 (2006-2010) and MK6 (2010-2014) Jettas and Golfs. This tutorial shows you how to do an engine cover removal at home, with minimal tools. The plastic cover must be removed to access the engine, air filter, spark plugs, coil packs and more.

Stupid plastic covers... I can't believe I had to watch a KZbin video on how to remove it! Great video though, very informative and good idea with the grease.

Nice vid on the cover, thanks!! VW doesn't like to make anything easy, they intentionally make DIY stuff very difficult. They want the service calls. I don't know about other car makes, if they are as difficult. I had a 1999 Passat, the oil filter was almost impossible to reach by hand. I saw a VW tech do the beginning of the change, he lifted the car up three feet, then TOOK THE DS WHEEL OFF THE CAR, and then he still needed a three foot (pole) filter wrench to get the f-ing filter off. Oil went everywhere, as VW even layed out the filter face down, of course. F-ing INSANE.

Great video and very helpful. I just bought a MK5 Jetta with the same 2.5L engine. Car was driving fine and I was about to go get it inspect when in cold start it threw that same code. I followed your steps and found out that same exact hose was broken on my car too. I just put electrical tape around it for now until I order a new hose. I'll update if the code doesn't come back on.

Very helpful, especially for someone like me who never had to deal with this kind of car before. I judt finished changing the brakes on my son's girlfriend car, and needed to bleed them and l couldn't find the brake fluid reservoir which was hidden under the engine cover. So thanks again.

For those of you having trouble, a tip. I used a little bit of wd40 to get the back left grommet loose to start and managed to pull that one off. 3 more to go Then, i wedged a crow bar between the leftmost engine intake manifold chamber and the engine cover and with only supplying enough leverage support with the crowbar i managed to easily pop off the front left grommet. Remember not to lean too heavily on the crowbar, it's only there to provide leverage support. The front right grommet will closer to the rightmost exhaust manifold chamber. I was able to pop off the back right grommet just by lifting forcefully against it with the weight of the engine cover and it popped off without issue or breakage. Hope this helps.
