I have seen many videos on people attempting to cut their hair themselves which usually turns into a disaster. In this video, I share how to remove those horrid weight lines that you see when you attempt to cut your own hair or on a client in a salon.

Great tutorial video. I do my own haircut on occasion and just use a longer attachment like a 5 or 6 on the sides and back and then use the thinning shears to blend the weight line as best as possible using two mirrors in the bathroom. Hey, it's free, so, you can't expect perfection! I do get compliments though...takes practice.

It's sad but I paid 14 grand for a Cosmetology license that in reality, only prepared me for State Board. Of course I didn't realize that until I went to work in a Salon. As far as Clipper Cuts, that was something I struggled with for years and still do sometimes depending on the head shape/hairlines of certain Clients. Depressing because I just learned more from this video than the 11 months I had in Hair school all those years ago. 😳

Well done!. I trained 25 years ago. Thinning shears is perfect to blend as is "point cutting". My Men's Haircut Model in PivotPoint Cosmetology School was my husband (of 31 years this year), who has a perfect head of hair and square jaw. In fact, before I got my license he modelled for Men's Cut Competitions, and his two different stylists won a First and a Third Place. : )

Clear instruction. So many tutorials don't explain what blade size they're using. Others seem to think that speaking very loudly will help us to understand better. Clear calm explanation of every step works for me every time. thanks:)

You're a life saver. I sort of screwed up my boyfriend's hair, (though I did a better job than he usually does, and he thought it was adequate😂) because he has to cut his hair every two weeks into a high and tight for the Air Force, and there's no way we can afford to go to a barber every time. So thank you, it will go a lot better next time.

Thanks for showing us how to get rid of that weight line. I am trying to conquer the scissor over comb method. I am a 2 year cosmetologist and when you are taught in school to use the guards and then shown in the real world scissor or clipper over comb...one would be like, huh? I am still learning and getting more and more comfortable doing the method you have shown in this video. Thanks Steve!

quickest most efficient barber method would be fading up to 1 1/2, or 2 (plastic guard or metal blade) and clipper over comb for blending. if you use thinning shears where the hair isn't properly blended, some hairs may start to pop out prematurely when the hair grows out

TheSalonGuy Thanks for the tutorials man, it's very useful. Btw does one need to use a comb when changing the guards of the haircutter? I notice when I just use the haircutter by itself after slowly moving onto bigger guards , they still cut/shave my hair as if there was no guard. So after seeing this video, I assume to create fading, I should be using the larger guards in combination with the comb so I don't shave too deep? Thanks again man love your channel.
@TheSalonGuy
@TheSalonGuy 9 жыл бұрын
Radiation4TheNation Thanks for the question. I always use a comb to brush the hair into the guards regardless. When you comb the hair, it keeps the natural growth pattern in tact. When you just use a guard, no comb, the guards push the hair up where it doesn't naturally grow which then leaves you another line and you can't blend. Best way to simplify it is to always comb when using clippers. Comb downwards to see the natural pattern. Again, ALWAYS comb....

Scissor over comb is the hardest thing for me to do when I blend my own hair. I cut my own hair for two reasons most barbers in my area do not know how to cut female hair. Secondly a simple taper is not worth $25 its not in my budget.

+TheSalonGuy I was gonna buy a mannequin from hair art products but the postage, shipping and handling was crazy expensive because I live in Australia. My mum told me to go on eBay and I found a range of cheaper ( close to the quality of the hair art products ones) mannequins and I bought one, 22 inch in length, side part, free postage, shipping and handling from Hong Kong + free clamp all for 27 AUD It's dew in a few weeks and I'm so excited to get started on styles. You were a big help in decision, I've loved hair ever since I was 4 and I'm 13 now. LOVE YOUR VIDEOS KEEP UP THE AMAZING WORK 💇🏻💇🏻💇🏻💇🏻💇🏻👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼✌🏼️✌🏼✌🏼✌🏼✌🏼

Scissors over the comb hardly ever work on yourself. You can get by with clipper cutting and and cutting the top with layer cutting. But, in any event, cutting your own hair is a skill that may take years to master. If you get the hang of it, your hair will look presentable regardless whether you're a professional or not.
