Thanks for doing this. Shop gave me an estimate of 800 bucks for the upper ball joints. An upper control arm set with joints on it is only 75 on amazon for my truck. If you cant figure something out... find a country boy.

Dude they tried to charge me $800 just for a brake job. I said haaaaa what the fuck and left.
@williamparker61322 жыл бұрын
There was 1 very important thing you forgot to do which is most likely why your camber was out of place even when marking the plates. You have to preload the bushings. Snug them as you said but you either need to put the tire on and lower it to put the weight on the bushings (if there is enough room to get in there after) OR put a jack stand under the hub and lower the weight of the truck down as if it would be sitting naturally on the tire. This puts the proper load on those bushings and your marks would've lined up normal. When this isn't done as you found, your alignment ends up way off AND this will actually force the bushing to work against itself which results in a premature wearing out of those new bushings or even cause them to tear and ruin completely. On the flip side I've used a lot of parts from Detroit axle and they are fantastic! You CAN go back in and chdck your bushings and fix it by loosening the bolts and doing as I wrote then re-torque them but you'll have to readjust your camber which will line up with your old marks.

Rides the same as factory and still going strong with no signs of wear since the video was made, I will say fitment is not like factory and why I had a rough time getting the adjustment fully right

@brandonrodriguez7483 жыл бұрын
How did you cut them? With what tools??
@williamparker61322 жыл бұрын
@@brandonrodriguez748 if I had to guess given the small space either an angle grinder with cut-off wheel or a smaller 3inch cut off tool. You COULD get in there with a die grinder with a cut off wheel but they don't have a blade guard so it's more dangerous but can be done. I cut off a sway bar link flush with the sway bar itself that way. I'd highly recommend Milwaukee if you don't have a compressor/air tools. Their m18 and m12 systems are the very best. My impact gun is their m18 most powerful on the market. My die grinders are the m12 straight and right angle. I'm gonna buy their 3 inch cut-off tool as well. Can't beat it.

Any tips on removing the bolts for the upper mounts at the frame? Mine seem to be stuck. I’ve tried heat cycling, I’ve tried beating the shit out of it with a hammer, and I’ve tried prying on it. Nothing seems to loosen them. Any feedback would be appreciated. Nice video though

@TattsForLife5 жыл бұрын
it showed in the video
@williamparker61322 жыл бұрын
You wanna mark on the camber plate where it lines up with the alignment pin that sticks out. Gouging it, paint marker etc works. If you replace the bolts and camber plates simply hold them together and repeat the old mark on the new plates.

LOL just did mine yesterday and in no way did mine come out that easy. nuts came off on top 2 bolts but bolts 1000% rusted into the sleeves. And YES I have a gallon can of PB BLASTER. did NOTHING. ended up cutting the bolt head off and the other side bolt half and prying the bracket apart to get it to slide out ., what a PITA. The ball joint bolt nut refused to come out because it was spinning in the joint. Put a 24" pry bar on it and didn't help. has to cut that out. RUST SUCKS //
@TattsForLife3 жыл бұрын
I agree, rust is no fun, I refuse to buy a used car if the frame and stuff is rusty bad, and I always try keep my frame sprayed out with a pressure washer
@williamparker61322 жыл бұрын
When the ball joint spins, no different than a tie rod or sway bar link, work in behind it on the boot side use a set of good vise grips to lock down on the spindle, as you turn the nut and the whole thing spins the grips will turn til it hits the knuckle and then hold it while you get the nut off. A other suggestion for really rusty control arm bolts in your particular case is heat. If you happen to have 1 of those fancy wire loop induction heaters those work GREAT if not a hand torch with propane or MAP gas directly on the bolt helps a ton as it'll expand then retract as it cools breaking the rust away. I hate using a torch but sometimes that's the only way or cutting.
