you really helped me today. I was looking up how to get that ball joint back into the knuckle while it was still attached to the control arm. After I took the tie rod off I was able to get a jack up under the joint and wiggle it back n forth until it clicked in after a couple of jacks. I was working in the clutch of time too...outside...in Chicago winter....so yeah, thanks!

Good job making do with what you have. I have found that the necessary tool is almost always within arm's reach and the proper tool doesn't always meet it's expectations. Also, almost nothing can be done without a hammer.

Just use a heavy duty G clamp with either two sockets, or go to your plumbing supply shop and buy a couple of plumbing sockets to suit the diameter, or even an exhaust repair shop and get some pipe off cuts to suit. You will also need just a couple of short pieces of flat bar about 6mm thick and 50mm long to cover the ends so the clamp can push on. Saves all that smashing of the control arm which can't be good for it

Yep was gonna buy a decent tool set for this but after reading this and the fact that I’ve got plenty of g clamps and sockets I’m now not gonna waste my money on it, my mate does that hammers drop links and uses bars to lever the anti roll bar just looking at him like you know you can just raise the suspension and it’ll come straight out right. If there’s a harder stupider way of doing things someone’s doing it out there……. Anyway thanks for the tip that’s money saved

@@justinmeadows2173 that was some stupid question right there, i never knew ball joint needs directions. if they needed to be be, sure there would provide notches, but then again, an area that need to be pressed having notches?
@themann82434 жыл бұрын
His question is legit. Jeeps ball joints must be pressed from top to bottom. Corollas from bottom to top
@jonhall71883 жыл бұрын
Never put anti seize inside the rim of the control arm where the ball joint goes. Also, you can go to any of your auto parts stores and rent a ball joint press. One small mishap while using the jack to press and the entire weight of the vehicle shifts and you better pray that the jack stands do not shift with it. I have witnessed this happen and is extremely dangerous.
@TheDunceMafia2 жыл бұрын
Exactly one reason no one has made a video like this like yeah go use a jack to press your lower balljoint in and out, then vehicle shifts and falls on someone following the video and tries to sue etc , also i would like to know how you do the upper considering the strut is not holding the upper control arm down, if you work in a shop and expect to be doing balljoints often i really recommend purchasing a balljoint press it will save so much time and potentially save you in the end

Instead of bashing the hell out of the lower arm to fit the new joint, use a large socket over the top of the ball joint and hit that- the hammer blows will transmit more force directly where its needed and require less hitting. Also avoids making it look like captain caveman is working on their front end.

@notor1oussavag3354 жыл бұрын

@NA-OK4 жыл бұрын
No you can’t. You have to pay $150 to rent it so if you don’t return it then you’ve paid for it. I went to autozone and this is what the manager said. It’s not free unless you return it and get your $150 back when you return. So there is an upfront cost that is returned when done.
@nedoscarsandfishingvideos55004 жыл бұрын
N A so You didn’t pay for anything They are keeping your deposit when you return Tool you get your money beck so it is free Didn’t cost you anything
@NA-OK4 жыл бұрын
Nedo the car guy Nedo as expected you have zero reading comprehension. You CANNOT RENT THE TOOL WITHOUT HAVING THE $150 to put down for the RENTAL TO START WITH.... AS I STATED THE FIRST TIME! And as I stated the first time IFFFFFFFFFF YOU RETURN IT THEN AND ONLY THEN DO YOU GET THE MONEY BACK! So as stated the first time in an attempt to get you to comprehend the written language IFFFFF you have the money upfront then you can rent it so it IS NOT FREE UPFRONT MORON!!!! It’s $150... which you can buy a new one yourself for $50. If you’re doing the job yourself chances are most people ( that means most not all people for your non comprehending self ) can’t afford a shop to do it! Hence the reason they would want to rent for free, BUT it is NOT FREE UP FRONT!!! You HAVE TO HAVE $150.00 UP FRONT TO RENT THE TOOL!!!!!!!! That is not the same as FREEEEEEEE!!! That is PAY NOW and if you return it then we will refund you your rental FEE making it FREE IFFFFF YOU PAY UP FRONT!!!
