I found a brand new AMG run flat tool on eBay. Makes the process much safer. In addition to changing the O-rings also supposed to apply a tube of run flat lube to the inside of the new tire. If you were to drive on a flat tire the runflat generates friction, heats up, and could catch on fire. I had an AMG factory trained mechanic do mine.

If you don’t plan on driving far on a run flat, then the lube isn’t needed. ie. I had a sidewall fail at home. I drove 11 yards into the garage and changed the tire. If you don’t plan to be in combat, then why would you need to drive far enough on a flat to build enough heat to burn the tire? Without the lube you have a shot at actually balancing the tires. :)

@@GearreportdotCom I would agree with your points. For sure. My tech worked on HMMV's in the military. And went to AMG school for the local GM dealer. I own a 1995 H1. They actually do good work and let me supply my own parts. Either they often can't get them these days, or they take months. He recommended the lube. I opted to put it in. I supplied it to them from my Hummer parts supplier. I carry two spares. Have the onboard ATIS system. And often operate out in the Eastern Nevada desert. Not out of the question to be a long drive from any help or support. Sometimes by myself. So I have all bases covered. After a right rear blow out at highway speed, I bought six brand new military Goodyear MT radials. My tires were professionally mounted and balanced. And I have to say in some speed ranges (55-65) my Hummer vibrates like a mother. 70 however seems to be a sweet spot, and she runs smooth as glass! Many rural places out here in Nevada, especially on highway 80, the speed limits do run upto 65, 70, and even 80 in places. Have to say the Hummer does seem to be a little squirrely over 70 though. ;)
