Tip 1 - You improved use of Noise Reduction/Restoration to the point where my results had improved and I was happy to publish. Tip 2 - You validated my opinion of DeNoise. Tip 3 - You blew my mind and transformed how I'll edit audio from this moment on. All of that, and I haven't even finished watching. Seriously. There's still 50s left until the end of the video. Excellent content. No gatekeeping knowledge, no boring and unnecessary introduction. This should be the standard for all instructional content going forward. Subscribed and notified. Hi Mike! First off, I love your channel. You've made getting back into audio fun and accessible. (I use your ENCN technique and noise reduction/noise gate tips for every video I make.) Secondly, do you have a preset that reduces sibilance and mouth sounds? Or would the Personal Audio Coaching option be the better choice? I've tried to use Adobe's basic DeClicker and DeEsser, but the results are mixed. I then spend too much time manually getting rid of them because they drive me crazy.

Hi Mike. Another great video. I pretty much always head straight for option 3 and the noise gate, also cranking up the hold to stop words being clipped. Seems to work for larger projects such as our podcasts and makes the workflow easier. Sometimes analysing the whole recording first of all to get a cut off level to start at. i have a very different trick for this.... DJ software such as virtual dj and serato, now have voice isolation filters using AI which is trained to identify human voice. the tech has come a LONG way now ,and its almost perfect. it also can be used for instruments, bass and percussion, but for videography we usually just need the voice. so you can put the audio in there, and remove everything except the human voice, and then record that as a new file and then mix it with some of the original noisy file if you want. only issue it has is that if the background noise is due to people talking, then it will also keep those bakground voices too. i dont think adobe have anything like this yet.. but this is where its headed i believe ,and this will be a much handier way to do it than the 3 ways mentioned in the video here.

Hi Mike, great video as usual. I use all three methods described in the video depending on the state of the audio that needs fixing.
@MikeRussell2 жыл бұрын
Glad to have helped. Naturally you want to be recording in the quiestest possible environment as while these methods can reduce noise they also reduce audio quality too. Certainly if you're having to use all three at the same time then you need to think about where you're recording and lower the noise floor.
@shameerali21882 жыл бұрын
@@MikeRussell Hey just to clarify i do not use all three at the same time, i will choose one of the method depending on the level of the noise reduction needed. in most cases audio clips recorded by someone else are sent to me for noise treatment befor use in video or audio production, as for mie i'm always looking for the best posible enviroment to record when i have to.

why does noise reduction always makes my audio sound like I'm in a big empty room or alienates audio when other effects are added? I've tried doing noise reduction first before anything else, tried it after and I even tried DeNoise instead but that one sounds like there's a shower running in the background. Maybe noise reduction doesn't work well with -33 db raw audio or you just can't reduce noise without damaging voice file. It's strange because in audacity it's so easy to reduce noise. You capture noise before and after effects and it's perfect
@MikeRussell Жыл бұрын
Noise reduction can be tricky, especially when dealing with lower dB levels. The 'big empty room' or 'alien' sound often occurs when the settings are too aggressive. Try and get a balance if you can.
@VerticDesigns Жыл бұрын
@@MikeRussell just watched your adobe audition tutorial which was very helpful :) but it got me thinking. Is it better to record at low levels around -33 to not pick up as much background noise or record between -18 to -12 then remove noise?

I'd go at higher volume otherwise you risk increasing the noise floor by recording at low volumes so an extra issue introduced.

Thank you sooo much! I struggled with the DeNoise effect in Premiere Pro and tried various other effects to fix the voice, but it never came out right. The Noise Reduction effect in Audition fixed the entire sound in a few seconds. I thought it was a lot more complicated and that I would need to adjust various values, but Audition is really great for sound. Once again, I was convinced of the truth of the sentence that every Adobe tool should be used for its intended purpose.

I like to use a program that extracts vocals from mastered tracks, though they doesn't always come out clear like a studio acapella would (obviously). The more instruments/elements (kick, bass, drum, etc.) there are behind the vocals, the less clear and harder to extract they are. Is it possible to make a video on at least sharpening those vocals, or "bringing them forward" so to speak? Normally I'd go into the Parametric Equalizer but I feel there's probably a better way. Would love to hear your take on it.

Isolating vocals from an already mixed and mastered track will never provide clean vocals. The only option is to source and acapella if you need a perfect version.

Is there any way we can isolate a human voice and remove other human voices . For example I got an audio where a lady was singing and I had to remove the voice of other people talking in the background. I tried with izotope too but could not find any better way. Dialogue isolate did not help because it only works when the voice has to be separated from noise but in this case their is voice plus voice. So is there any thing, any magical plugin Mike?

This wouldn’t be possible as the frequencies would be too similar in between the two different voices.

You're welcome! I'm glad you found the tutorial helpful in removing background noise in Adobe Audition.

Hi Mike. Great video. Thanks. I've tried to find the answer in many places, but I get horizontal lines in the spectral view. Together, they produce a noise - humming plus some high frequencies. The lines are spaced almost like harmonics - parallel and decreasing in distance as you move up the spectrum. I'm in a well-treated room. Using a decent USB mic (Rode NT1). If I bump up the input gain in the computer (PC), the noise floor does go up significantly. Haven't found an answer in Adobe's forum, YT videos or any place else. The wave is not a perfect sine wave during the noise, and I hate having to push really hard on any post-processing to tell you the truth. Using gates, denoise, Waves NS1 and all that together ends up eating into the vocals. Any ideas would really help. Appreciate it. :)

Hi! Thanks for watching. Oh my, sounds like you might be dealing with some interference or electrical noise. I would recommend trying a few things: 1) Check your microphone cables and connections for any issues. 2) Experiment with different USB ports on your PC to see if that helps. 3) Try using a ground loop isolator to eliminate any potential grounding issues. Let me know how you get on!

@@MikeRussell Tried the USB ports. I reckon it's the first reason. I hadn't thought about the third one though. I'll give it a look. Appreciate it. 👍 Have a good one. _edit : just looked up what a ground loop isolator is. Can't believe I haven't dealt with one before. My guess is you're absolutely right. Thanks again._

Would it be better to do noise reduction before or after ENCN?

Before. Always noise reduction first 👍

Hi Mike thank u for all great videos.. I want to ask u about the high voic problems.. when the voice had recorded while it was loud we hear the noise of loudspeaker .. how can I remove it with out effecting the voice .. thank u 💓

Always make sure the speakers are off when recording voiceovers. Look for the video on removing echo although I suspect your best option will be to record again with the speakers off.

@@MikeRussell thank u very much Mike.. but the voice is from an old tape and it's very important.. I don't know if there's another way to fix this 😕

Look at the videos for removing echo. It works best on room reflections rather than out and out echo but it's worth a try
