Funny I just broke a head bolt doing a head job...wanted to see other mechanics methods for extraction...about 20 seconds in I realize it's the same car & same spot.... I suppose that's a common spot to snap or a coincidence....great vid guys

Just watched video this morning, went to harbor freight bought the same exact tools removed all 10 broken headbolts under 30 mins!! Thank you for this video!

How do you even do that

Right! Somehow valve cover gasket bolt broke off when I loosen it and tried this exact method and it never gain any traction. It’s anodized aluminum bolt screw on aluminum. Same recess hole 1/4 deep. I tried smallest and increase size and nothing lol. At the point I’m going to buy cobalt drill bit, drill entire thing and then retap it. Engine already has 200k miles so worst case I might just use tons of RTV SILICONE for temporary seal lol

Well done most of people don't know about reverse drill bits and most the time you can back the bolt out if it's not jacked up

Invaluable tips! Your video saved me time and money. A Harbor Freight torque wrench snapped a bolt in my Honda Fit's engine, but your instructions, along with their reverse drill bits, helped me in gettng the bolt out wiithout damaging the threads. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you! I used a fresh, new drill bit for step 1 and for step 2 I switched between 2 out of a set of 3 extractor bits from Home Depot - to take out 2 broken engine mount bolts. I also used my wifi scope to orient the bit & check on progress. When that second bolt came out it was a great feeling ☕️

idk, i see shavings dropping into the cooling jacket. might want to tape that off!

thats all fine if the bolt broke evenly. dimple is impossible to find if it broke off slanted, drill keeps slipping to the side. So not always as easy as in this video. I'm struggling with this one for the second day with the same tools. I'm thinking to just drill the damn thing to schreds and magnet it out, and maybe even redo the threads.

Same! I had a slant and even center punch didn’t work. Even bought door hinge centering drill but didn’t fit my hole, and already noticed some of my thread got damage. On my way today prob buy cobalt drill bit and drill it out. Then idk, then buy insert someone mention I can tap it or jb weld it ghetto style and retap for temp fix lol

Nice. Covering the rest of the engine would've been better. Metal shavings getting into the engine.

SWEET WAY TO COLLECT $200-$300 DOLLARS! THE BAGS OF TRICKS THAT MECHANICS HAVE HIDDEN AWAY!! I AM WONDERING HOW WELL THIS METHOD WOULD WORK ON TORQUE TO YEILD BOLTS THAT ARENT BROKEN,BUT ARE T55 & STRIPPED?? ANY INFORMATION GREATLY APPRECIATED. THANKS FOR POSTING,OFF TO GET REVERSE BIT SET!
@gasketmasters Жыл бұрын
The concept would work exactly the same. Basically you drill out the cap of the bolt until the head is off and then you can either pull the head up from around the remaining stud or use this method to pull the boltout

Every engine going to have a bit of metal shavings in the engine. Don’t believe me then get a magnetic drain plug and you’ll see.

Sometimes, head bolts get super tight from expansion/warping of the head after overheating. They will then become excessively tight and hard to remove. The usual reaction is to get a bigger breaker bar or an impact wrench, and snap they go!
