I used your video today as guidance for this truck. Exactly how you explained it, worked perfectly and saved $900 quote at a fix-it shop. I used a bore scope to peek inside tubes before taking plugs all the way out. Breaking the plug with twisting motion as you explained was the best advice along with the specific socket. Lifesaver!

Great to hear! I find it amazing that the fix-it shop wouldn't know that trick. The same technic could be used on many cylinder heads where the plug is deep into the head.

Thank you so much for this video. I aways run my car to temp, then drop the oil, and whilst it drains change my spark plugs. But this time I didn’t do the oil first, so I think the engine being cold meant the rubber boot seized to the spark plug. Rubber boot all torn, and no way of knowing how to get it off, I started digging at it with picks and Stanley blades. This video saved me many hours of panic and possibly making things so much worse.

Just pick up the right tool for the Job. Dio Electric Grease is a good idea too. I am a die hard fan of the 4.0 but if I ever decided to Buy another Jeep to start wrenching again I'd buy a 1998 5.9 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited. The 3.7 and the 4.7 to me seem to be filling the Junk Yards faster then the Good Old XJ's. Also in my area i can still find the 5.9 many have 200 to 250 Thousand miles but are still on the road selling for 15 Hundred to 2 Thousand needing work. The 1998 5.9 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited was the crème of the crop and the fastest SUV Built at that time. Martin you seem to be the man when it comes to the Jeep all over the Internet. Thanks for the Videos.

I wish you had posted this last week HAHAHAHA Anyways, I don't remember if I posted this on any of your videos. But I rebuilt my 4.7l, it's a 2000, I put in the HO pistons and the HO heads with HO cams, used the Chevy fuel injectors, upgraded everything I could....started it up...damn did it sound good...had so much more power. I did the break in period and then drove it down to the gas station (about a mile maybe) when I got home it had a slight knock. I changed the oil again. Looked great. Checked the valves, one was stuck slightly down...I thought valve seat...tapped the valve with a mallet and it popped back up. Fixed the knocking for about 20 seconds then it got worse. According to Chrysler the new head gasket failed due to getting used head bolts from the parts store, and it damaged a piston and my cylinder wall :( needless the say, I put in a request for a new motor...buy am I mad...

@@danhambrick6331 yes idler and tensioner pullers for sure (maybe test the tensioner itself as well to see if it's still strong). You don't want the pulley bearings to seize up and destroy your new belt. Any other work at the same time would be overkill unless there's a real reason.

Her Martin, I see you are messing with the 08 4.7 heads. I have an 04 wj with the 4.7HO. Do you know if it is possible to swap the 2008 4.7 into an 04 wj? I have 2 of these wjs, one needs a new engine. Would consider buying a salvage 08 jeep or durango if it was possible to swap the updated 4.t into a wj. Thanks again.
@martinbuilt
@martinbuilt 3 жыл бұрын
yes it can be done, you would need to make some changes, like building a new Y-pipe as the exhaust manifold are different and are not interchangeable. The right cam gear is different and you'd need to replace the 32 tooth CRANKSHAFT RELUCTOR WHEEL with a 16 tooth and you'd need to use the HO throttle body so an adapter would be needed.
