I bought a new stove about 5 yrs ago and totally neglected cleaning the top around the burners. I had a really thick burnt area just like this video. I have tried every method I could find and none of them worked. I want to thank this individual for providing a real and effective way to totally clean it and restore it to almost perfect condition. Yes it did take about 3 hours, but after the neglect, it was a small sacrifice to make. If I could I'd kiss this dude on the lips. God bless you and thank you.

Thank you for posting this video. After 30 years, stove top looked new, thanks to my wife. I decided to boil green turned madrone bowls on the stove. Three hours of boiling and splatters, I thought the tannins had lifted the paint. Tried everything. After watching you video, I took some CLR, mainly for lubrication and new razor blade. Took a while, but looks brand new again!

This method is the ONLY one that works. Years of burnt-on crude will not come off with the store-bought stove/oven cleaners. I tried everything and using the razor blade is the only answer. And, thank you so much for offering the hints so that the stovetop does not get scratched. I watched the video twice, so that I followed the directions exactly as he stated. My stove looks brand new. Thank you!!

After hours of trying to clean my stove top, that has been seriously neglected after months of me being away to take care of my mom and others in the house not cleaning after they cook, I was getting pretty frustrated. I was to the point that I didn't care if I scratched it or not. I watched many videos like you mentioned with little success. And then I saw yours! I was amazed! I got off stuff that I thought was a permanent fixture from years ago. I never write reviews on videos, but damn, I was impressed. Thank you~

You are the first person to actually show some real caked on grease you find in all rentals everyone shows some fake tiny stains oh the kicker was the guy who said he made pancakes for the family and tossed flour on the stove oh god but thanks i haven't watched all the way through but thos is probably going to be what i need thanks

I was just cleaning my stovetop. It's a whirlpool same black piano finish. I tried using my nail and i could see it was actually lifting. I thought to myself perhaps I could use a razor? I stumbled across this video and confirmed I can use one. I'm ordering a razor right now and am finally going to clean that residue off once and for all. Key word to everyone after the clean up... prevention is far easier than the fix. Thanks HOwtoWith GEO!

This trick is amazing! I have tried everything in the past as you said in the beginning of the video and I almost gave up. And then I found this. Just took me an hour or so to clean all the grease and gunk that has been sitting there from more than a decade maybe! Hands down the best trick till date!!!

Your video was a great help. I was at my wits end. My stove is only 5 years old and the top looked as bad as yours. I tried everything to clean it and thought I would need a new top, or have to find a way to paint it. It actually looked like it was heat damage caused by defective paint. Seeing your stovetop looked just like mine, I figured I try your method. And damn. Within a few seconds I was elated to see Brand new paint begin to appear from under the crusty hardened surface. Using your exact blades and method, within about an hour I resurrected my stovetop and without exaggeration looks like the day we bought it. Now I know it was just hardened grease and not bad paint. Thanks for sharing this on video, it saved me from going down the wrong path. Dennis

We inherited a Wolf range with the condo we bought. It had a lot of baked on gunk that I have been trying to remove for 3 years. I watched your video, and yesterday I happily removed all the accumulated gunk! It was quite satisfying once I got the feel for scraping with the razor blade. Thank you so much!

I came back to comment. Thank you so so much! I had tried so many things; various degreasers, oven off, baking soda & vinegar, etc. All Fails. This method really is the trick. For anyone watching this video the razor blade works! It was a little intimidating at first b/c I didn't want to scratch the stove, but it doesn't take much to get a feel for how much pressure and angle to use. Stove looks brand new😄

Totally worked - after trying all the chemicals and applying tons of elbow grease - this approach works. Thank you! Now - to keep it up. Yes, baking soda and vinegar essentially neutralise each other. Such methods are recommended by folk who have never actually tried it themselves. Hot caustic is the only solution that will remove baked on grease. Car engine rebuilders have been using a "hot tank" forever. 'tis the only way. Razor blades? give me a break. Sorry to target you Ed, but had to say something about this baking soda and vinegar myth - as you found out.

Saved me dozens of hours after very slowly and incrementally going at this with Easy Off No Fume and baking soda. Watching an almost imperceptable amount of gunk come off after overnight soaks, day after day was very frustrating. Using a razor blade I did the equivalent of about 4-5 days of soaking and removing in about 10 minutes and didn't scratch the paint at all!

To loosen that kind of burnt on food or grease, first sprinkle a good amount of table salt then put some vinegar on it wait a few minutes, use a end of a spoon to scrap it it will be loose and come off. You can also use a stainless steel scrubber too with some dish soap to remove remaining residue . It really worked good for me .

Mine was just as bad, maybe worse. Real thick baked-on crud. This technique partly worked. But it was so thick it would not work in most places. So, I thought, it looks like hell anyway….So I took a propane torch and heated it first. Worked a charm. After years of struggle, it’s finally gone. Only worked in small sections, a few square inches at a time, being careful of not too much heat to avoid warping the metal. Very pleased with the result.

Here is a product out now that works pretty good even on “black” grease. Dawn Ultra now comes as Powerwash Dish spray. I had to use it on the silver part of the gas burner and it took most of the grease off the 1st time. Brown grease comes off much earlier than when it is black but you always have to be careful scraping it off.

Honestly I was 15 minutes from going to buy the heat resistant paint. I had already taped up the orifices, and taped newspaper all around the edge. The bumpiness made me think the metal had rusted and bubbled up unevenly. It was a used stove I just bought. It had bigger burners but I figured a little paint and it'll last long enough. I had tried baking soda vinegar the day before no difference. This was it. This is what it was. And I didn't find the right angle until half way through, and once I did, it went a lot faster. At first you're afraid to scratch the paint, but once you realize the angle, and its actually white steep almost 45*. Now I wish I had a before picture, because after it looks brand new. No paint needed. Maybe the touch up bottle for some knicked spots and corners only.
