I was rear ended on new years eve, it was a hit and run:( My mechanic quoted me around $2k to fix repair it! Today I decided I was going to fix it myself. I thought boiling water and using a hammer would do the trick, but I decided to get some tips on youtube first. What a CONFIRMATION! Great minds think alike! It worked, and other than a few pain chips and scratches, it's almost as good as New:):):) Cheers!

I just repaired this huge Toyota bumper cover using this technique. I removed the bumper, and filled the dented corner with water. Then sloshed the water around very controlled fashion. The dent almost fixed itself and the heat control was amazing. Thanks Mr Kilmer, Stay gold.

i use a heat gun, way easier to control and work the bumper. plus your less likely to burn yourself. i also use wood to reach in behind the bumper to pry out. it works great. I love your channel scotty!

This works really well for a textured bumper cover. If this was a painted bumper, like most cars have, you would need to have it repainted, and maybe replaced.

My 2001 Taurus backed into someone else at the DQ [I didn't do it, of course, my Taurus did] and left a dent much like Scotty's. I was planning on doing the hot water trick but before I could the temperature here rose to the upper 80s F. I touched the dent and it was about as hot as thought it needed to be so I took my crowbar to it using the curved back side of the bar. On the Taurus the back side of the dent (or the inside of the dent) was entirely accessible from underneath the bumper. Lying down on the hot and painfully pointy gravel driveway, I used a little gentle but serious persuasion with the back of the crowbar and the dent popped right out. I'm somewhat pleased with myself. It was quite easy to do. Point is - Sometimes the sun can heat up the bumper material to the degree necessary.

Yep, true, a decent heat gun has means to control it's temp, mine does as well as a wide hot air output, just regulate to something around 120º Celsius and all is well. I also use this with metal dents, heat a spot in the middle of the dent and then a towel dipped into icy water, most of the time, it just pops out clean.

30 seconds and a $10 heat gun. No unscrewing bolts or taking tires off. Just be sure to use a low setting and take your time as it can get extremely hot. Also, if you use the heat gun in one place for too long you'll melt the paint. Use a towel on the underside to push it out and make it straight (the towel is to avoid getting dirty and because it can be very hot). I did it to a huge dent and it looks factory new and literally took under a minute.
