I did a carb replacement on my Cub just last weekend and how you removed the carb stud was brilliant. I hadn’t done mine for that very reason and that was my impasse. Got the carb changed out and it started on the first pull. VERY well done vid. Love it sir.

I already thought the video was off to an amazing start and I just have a bit more respect for the challenges you may face daily, but they’re not a thing to you since it’s been that way since day one right. Being a mechanic that’s really kick ass. This video is so well done and I just really appreciate that you took the time to do it. I don’t know if this is your own shop or if you work at a small engine place but your cameraman was right there with you doing a great job following you and wasn’t somebody in the background making all kinds of silly comments. If you’re talking about the choke shaft being different than the other choke shaft on the new aftermarket carburetor? You can take two screws out of the choke plate and pull the rod out and install the other one from the other carburetor. But I’m not sure that’s what you’re talking about. You would need to send me pictures for me to understand more. If needed send to my email address which is on my KZbin channels homepage or it may be on the about it me page.

Quick question to anyone reading this comment. My Cub Cadet is only 2 years old. I NEVER stored it with gas in it and yet in one year (surging started last season), the carburetor was dirty. Anything I can do to keep the carburetor from getting this way? I've NEVER seen a small engine carburetor get this bad in such a short time. Is there any additive or gas station to use? Thanks you for watching!! We don’t see much snow in my area hence the carburetor video. It seems to be a good machine. Do not use the upgraded shear pin for obvious reasons. Spray silicone in and around the augers and discharge chute to help keep the snow from sticking. Keep up with the auger belt cable tension, change the oil and use hi octane fuel or non ethanol fuel to help from having carburetor issues and you should be good to go

Yes on many, there are, and the reason why I do not talk about it or recommend taking it off for the DIYer. If not reinstalled correctly, it will come out. The fuel tank filter will catch most and in the 30 plus years in business thousands of carburetor rebuilds, I have never had one clogged. Maybe it’s just my area that I live and I’m not saying it won’t happen but I personally do not recommend taking the inlet out.

@JohnsonsSmallEngines

The problem isn’t with the fuel in the tank as much it’s with the fuel in the carburetor that goes bad quickly. In my opinion try using the product called TruFuel and run your machine every other month in the off season for 20 minutes at a time and it should be there for you all the time. Unfortunately human nature we forget plus we don’t want to think about the snow thrower in the summer months.

Hey Jim, it’s a typical carburetor issue due to fuel going bad inside the carburetor. You will need to rebuild the carburetor and I think there is a link in the description of this video on how to rebuild it. Fuel will start to go bad in small quantities within three months. You either must make sure the carburetor does not have any fuel in it when you go to store it for the summer or you need to run the machine at least 15 minutes at a time every other month to keep the good fuel from the tank running through the carburetor.
@nappyjim

@@JohnsonsSmallEngines that's the thing..... I siphoned as much gas out of tank as I could then ran engine till it died. Then refilled tank with gas and stabil (never starting engine again). Even though my model isn't exact same as yours in video, it's still helpful. I'm at the carb now. I know fuel is making it to carb caused when I removed line running from fuel tank to carb, some fuel spilled out (the stuff I wasn't able to siphon out prior to working on it). I guess I'll remove carb still and try to clean?
@JohnsonsSmallEngines
@JohnsonsSmallEngines 2 жыл бұрын
@@nappyjim I would say 98% of the time how you stored it should have worked but the little bit that trickles down into the carburetor is what goes bad then the engine will not start. If you can see the bottom of the carburetor bowl? There is two bolts. The bolt that is sitting off to the side is a drain. It should be a ten millimeter wrench. You can try and take it out to flush the good gas from the tank through the carburetor but remember to be ready for fuel to start flowing out. Let it come out until you think fresh fuel is coming out then put the bolt back in. Try and start it again and see if that will work before you pul the carburetor off.
