I have this Cub, my son has one and 2 of my neighbors have it. They all have the same issue, which is they start but will not idle without the choke. They pop and surge off idle. Mine and my son’s are only 2 years old. I’ve fixed 3 of them by cleaning the pilot jet without removing the carb. If you remove that silver bracket the pilot jet can be removed. I posted a short picture clip on here last year showing how. I should go your route this spring and do the complete carb. Non ethanol fuel is not easy to find around here, so we use regular and stabilizer. We don’t fill them and don’t run them out. My son and I run ours every couple weeks and add fresh fuel as we go. It’s a pain in the butt but so far so good. I didn’t try to fix the 4th one, he lives at the far end and I don’t know the guy, but I’ve heard it running and don’t know if only the pilot jet clean would work. After the first winter I left mine with gas and stabilizer, my son uses stabilizer but ran his out in the spring. In the fall neither would idle.

Definitely seems to happen often with today's fuels even with stabilizers

Thanks for the tutorial. My Cub Intellipower is a bit different, it plugs into a circuit board of sorts mounted above the carburetor. The governor control can remain mounted to the carb and you just unplug it, and you still have access to remove the pilot jet for cleaning. Followed your general instruction and the snowblower fired right up. Thanks!

My neighbor put his Cub Cadet snow blower away last winter without draining the carburetor. Just the other day he asked me If I could clean the carburetor. I told him yes and told him more than likely the idle jet is plugged. Sure enough, it was plugged, and it took one of my micro drills to open the jet up. What came out was a hard black substance no doubt caused by ethanol fuel. I shared with him to use non ethanol fuel which we have at a Speedway real close to us. I use non ethanol fuel and Sea Foam in all my OPE. Never have any carburetor issues. The Speedway carries 89 octane non ethanol fuel that seems to work really well in all my OPE. I've also used 92 octane none ethanol and my machines seem to cold start better using 89 octane. Small 4 cycle engines are relatively low compression and don't need higher octane made for higher compression engines. Enjoyed your very Indepth video. I am sure your videos are a great help to many seeking help with their OPE.

Great video and very helpful! I'm in the process of figuring out my issues... only running at 3/4 choke and mid-throttle. I'm thinking gas is the problem as I'm also seeing debris in the tank. Going to tear down the carb this week and give it a good clean. That said, how do you access the fuel filter in these? I'm assuming they're the tiny in-line style?
@IndRepair6 күн бұрын
They are at the nipple of the fuel outlet inside the tank. You can blow it out using compressed air. Sounds like debris and bad fuel causing carburetor issues could be what is causing it

Good video when I stored mine last year I used trufuel and it started right up no problems. I did also do a test on the trufuel I took small mason jars and filling them half way, one completely sealed and one with a vent hole from an old can opener. The one sealed stayed Chrystal clear and never evaporated at all but the vented one was almost all gone and even that fuel turned slightly yellow. The problem is the air is getting to the fuel and causing it to go bad quicker, so I think filling the tank and sealing it with a piece of plastic or something similar would be beneficial….. thanks again for the video it was very informative.
@IndRepair2 ай бұрын
Definitely agree, any fuel will go stale from evaporation or moisture getting into the tank eventually

Hi Martin. Great video, these engines with e-governors are new to me, thanks for the explanation of how they work. Have you ever seen a snowblower with a gas cap that doesn't vent? I had that issue once, and it caused a similar problem. How does this MTD's gas cap vent?
@IndRepair5 ай бұрын
I have seen the issue before on many things but I am not sure I ever remember seeing one on a Powermore engine. These do vent through the fuel cap or top of the tank depending on the design

Thanks for the video. I just put a new carb on my 3 Stage and ran excellent yesterday, went to use it today and had one more drive to do and it started surging then eventually stalls out what could the issue be especially with a new carb? Thanks
@IndRepairАй бұрын
Was the fuel completely empty before replacing the carb? I would still check the main jet many times metal shavings make it into the bowl during manufacturing
@rodneybaldwin92283 ай бұрын
Awesome video. I have a 3x cub 30". Had to replace the carb from being gummed up. Now the surging is still there just not nearly as bad. The small plastic pilot adjustment, you said here to be about an 1/8" showing, is that something I could use to give it a touch more fuel? Partial choke makes the surging go away. It was a cub cadet OEM carb I replaced it with, non electric governor. Thank you.
@IndRepair2 ай бұрын
Thank you! Either have an air leak between the carburetor and engine or some bad fuel still in it likely. Many of the carbs will even have debris in them from the factory. Never a bad idea to check

I just got one. I am wondering if there is room to put a shut off valve on the fuel line. Ethanol fuel is garbage for jets and needle and seats. My older snow blower had a valve and I could run the float bowl out of fuel.

I am sure they don't have a mechanical governor here so the case would have to be heavily modified and a bunch of parts added. Definitely possible but probably not very logical to do. I will check it out once I have one opened up vs the original design could be interesting, no doubt

I sold my Troy Built 2410 that I bought brand new in 2020 last weekend because of that Powermore engine on it. I’m thinking about buying an Aierns 24” Deluxe and it comes with a Chinese engine on it that is specifically made for Aierns from what I’ve read about it. Do you think the Chinese Aierns engines are well built or have you seen a lot of problems with them. Thanks.

These come with an LCT engine I believe? Just standard Chinese engines, don't see too many issues with them but not super high quality either. Seem build better than the Powermore, I would say

@Rein_Ciarfella5 ай бұрын
As with you, I’m not a fan of anything that is superseded with electronics. It’s just more things to fail more readily. Sitting in the shed most of the year the mice will have meals. 😉 I can also see a PCB cracking solder lines as it heats and gets very cold in the Winter - just a recipe for failure.

ya, I think intellipower is a dumb gimmick and not needed for residential use. commercial snowblowing might benefit from that but if you're going to automate the carburetor like that, might as well just go EFI and skip the middle step of that intellipower crap. In fact, I've been wondering why EFI hasn't become standard by now. With all the maintenance you have to do on the carburetors pretty much every year, the extra cost of going with EFI should be justified.
