Which is why U need to get a bottle of CBD! Turns a hyper crazy hundred pound dog that won’t stop barking into a lazy, sleepy bag of fur ....so you can imagine what it does to a cat. It’s a lifesaver and is great pain relief for animals w arthritis as well. My friends vet suggested putting down her large size hound who couldn’t make it up the stairs with his arthritis or go for walks anymore ...after using CBD it’s like he is two years old again - and a completely new animal now that he’s not in pain.

Most people don't know this, but black tar heroin is very unhealthy for cats and should only be applied once or twice an hour via needle to completely sedate the cat for extended periods, something we call a "heavy overdose" in the biz.

I just wish I had something that could literally knock her out so I could just get it done to give her relief. It would take days if I could even get to her stomach. I honestly don’t know what to do. I never like giving sedatives to my pets but it’s to the point this poor baby needs to be OUT so I can get these mats off her stomach. This makes brushing out mats look way easier than they really are lol! My 15 year old girl doesn’t like being brushed at all, and although she’s as polite as can be, she absolutely hates having her back end touched (which is where most of the mats are). Usually after brushing out her mats, I come out with quite a few bites and a really annoyed cat, but at least I have enough hair to make a new cat lol

My Norwegian Forest cat hates coconut oil. He doesn’t groom much at all due to dental issues and I have started using olive oil and massaging it deep into his skin. Because his hair is soooo long and his undercoat gets so matted quickly, I find snipping (a time or 2) the difficult knots with scissors held at almost 90° makes a huge difference. I wait a couple hours after brushing, and then take a warm, damp washcloth and lightly clean the excess and brush one last time to make sure the oils left are distributed.

This is much too rough, and Murray is being a super good sport about it! For rescues that have been abandoned - even pets that have been long neglected, nothing short of sedation would keep one from taking a chunk out of the human pulling at their paper-thin skin like that. Murray is lucky he only had a few little mats on his back, but you are luckier. You can NOT use this method for a severely matted cat unless you have a death wish. There are tools and products that *help*, but nothing but gentle patience and time (in short sessions) will do, short of shaving by a cat groomer who has experience. Precisely why I won't leave one with a vet for grooming!

I was uncomfortable watching how hard he was pulling, and Murray even showed him that it was hurting him. I've read a lot of reviews for grooming combs (some with sharp blades) on Amazon and many owners were upset because they said the fur wasn't being cut but was being pulled directly out of the skin. I have read though that it can be done slowly and carefully to avoid pulling and tearing. I wish this vet would've done that.

I can't get to the vet or groomer right now because I twisted my knee and I am walking around with a walker. She has mats on her hind legs. The funny thing is when she was outside she had no mats. Hi Doc. how many drops of the rescue remedy i should give to my cat before the grooming? Is there any limit per pound or kg for an adult cat? Also one of my cats has stomatitis in his mouth. I spent thousands of dollars over a year so many antibiotics, steroids, herbal remedies, nothing seems working. I was told that they need to remove all his teeth, but even that may not be an answer. I don't want to do that. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance for the response.
@VeterinarySecrets3 жыл бұрын
Hi- for rescue remedy 3 drops is standard, but no real limit.. Stomatitis is so hard to treat, and in many cases removal is the only option. I have seen some success with CBD/THC tinctures, along with the flavonoid in green tea, EGCG

@@VeterinarySecrets thanks so much for the information Doctor. I will not put him through the extraction of his teeth. He is only 7 yrs. old. And his teeth are healthy. I will try green tea. I just started giving him Manuka Honey and organic raw coconut oil. Vitamins E and B.

I like the natural approach, I have a seriously matted rescue cat who is vision impaired and not trusting. He has mats along his back. I am just getting him used to a brush and neck rubs. I will try rescue remedy and coconut oil to see how he responds. I most likely will need to do it in stages. Thank you

I have a beautiful 19-years young cat that gets mats on the back of her legs. She’s a long haired cat so the mats get bad. Is it still safe to give her CBD oil and the coconut oil?
@TeeJayDeluxe4 жыл бұрын
Justme77 the cat he’s demonstrating on doesn't have very long fur. I would suggest going to Vet to get shaved. You can't do it yourself as the cats skin it's very thin. Never use scissors as the flexibility of the skin means it's very easy to cut them badly.

THANK YOU for this! My poor Bobtail kitty gets them on her back (not too bad, about 3 or 4) but she has such a phobia now from her first de-matting that if I approach her with a comb she runs!!! She hates being brushed just in general now it’s awful. Her first de-matting was also her first vet trip so multiple stresses left her not having it! Definitely trying your method out and will report back 😺

I think I might have to find some CBD oil... my long-haired cat got filthy playing in the dirt so I gave her a bath, and now she's got some pretty big mats on the back half of her body from being lathered and wet! I've been gently breaking them apart with my hands and some brushing but some of them are quite stubborn and I know it must be uncomfortable for her. Thanks for the video!

Hmmm my furry cat is semi-feral, and no way would she put up with any of this. I am managing to slowly get at the mats (clumps like she's rolled in toffee...) by snipping away here and there when she's eating, with the constant threat of her turning and flying at my face. She's the wildest cat I've ever had. She can be very loving though, and will climb on my knee for a cuddle. I might try the coconut oil in future. I'd have to put Rescue Remedy or CBD oil into her food.

I wish it were this easy. I have tried everything. My daughters beloved cat will not allow anyone to brush AT ALL. I have tried absolutely everything. Such a precious friend to my daughter, but a complete monster in grooming attempts. I cry, I cry so much because she is extremely matted. I am down to her getting sedated at the vet and shaved down. I hope this will help her to be a happier cat.

Our cat is the same (a Maine Coon). She's the first cat I've ever had who not only doesn't like to be brushed, but turns into an absolute wildcat when I try. Needless to say, matting is a real issue. We ended up scheduling an appointment with the vet to get a lion cut. An absolute shame because she has beautiful, soft long fur.

Thank goodness I came across this video! My precious furbaby Spades is a longhair and I absolutely hated getting her unmatted the first time I tried (last year), so finding this video has given me a better insight... The first time I tried, I accidrntally knicked her on her neck - in which I stopped and put a bandage around her nack for about 2 weeks to make sure the knick healed all the way (changed the bandage every few days. But with this video, I will feel with some knowledge and some helpful tips on unmatting her. I hated hurting her.

Why not gently snip off the mats? I did that on my brother's dog. She looks so much better. Also snipped off the mats while she was taking a nap! She was so calm; no squirming or resistance.❤
@laurice80563 жыл бұрын
I didn’t try to chemically calm my cat first before removing some of her matts. But I found that using a cone around her neck helped to protect me from potential bites during her bath and de-matting session. Talking gently to her as I dried her and brushed her kept my cat a little calmer. Holding the matts near the roots and close to her skin while I comb through small sections seemed less uncomfortable or painful for my cat. I massaged her with a bit of mineral oil. It works great for detangling the fur for less hair loss or need for snatching it out,...OUTCH 😿!! But I also like your idea of the Coconut Oil for her fur and skin. I would like to try using an electric shaver next time to make the de-matting process faster and more efficient. Doctor can you please demonstrate this in a future video? Thanks for sharing.🙏

My Siberian cat, Randy--who is an extraordinary hunter, and has beautifully fluffy and shiny black fur--gets terrible mats near his tail and lower back during the summer. We do regularly brush Randy, but that isn’t sufficient for the sort of matting our Randy suffers from…After all, a Siberian has *three* coats! But to be honest, if I tried to force Randy’s mouth open to give him a natural sedative (rather than spraying a lot of Feliway on a towel and picking Randy up and holding him in it) to calm him, I WOULD PROBABLY LOSE A COUPLE OF FINGERS. And if--after rubbing the coconut oil into all the mats--I proceeded to forcefully pull a cutting comb thru the mats, my Randy-even sedated-would do a good deal more than meow pathetically. Unless I was wearing thick gardening gloves for this little “operation,” my hands would be sliced to pieces by Randy’s murder mittens… I guess i’m saying that the procedure in this video strikes me as neither “easy” nor “safe.”

Watching this in tears. My cat just died a little over a week ago and it was unexpected. He was 12. He came home one day and was matted. I spent over 3 hours loving on him and removing the mats. Similar method, but never thought to calm him with CBD! (which i use for my dog already, lol) anyways, do you have any tips for dealing with the sudden loss and grief? My Cocker Spaniel is taking the death just as hard as me and i don't know how to help him. He goes out and just lays on his grave for hours. (Be aware he is normally a full of life loving dog) He's becoming withdrawn and his appetite is diminished. I know he can feed off my emotions and so i've been doing what i can to cheer him up but i don't know what to do except hold him and bawl because he's hurting as much as i am..

Sorry for your loss Brittany. I lost one of my dogs just last week as well. Grieving is a process for us and our pets. Keep being attentive to your remaining furbaby and give yourselves some time. (My other dogs are also exhibiting the signs of confusion and loss as well. I'm just trying to give them extra love.) 💗

As pet lovers we all know some times a special one comes along that just bonds with you. I lost mine june 1rst 2018. Its Sept and i still hurt. But you go on extra loving for the ones left and when you can bare it adopt another. You never loose one they live for ever in your heart and memories . There will always be room for another. To love.

I agree with Michelle G. Our pets grieve along with us when there is a death in the family. When our chocolate lab died years ago, my Siamese cat disappeared somewhere in the house for 2 weeks, grieving for him. I was quite worried but he eventually came out of hiding and sought me out for comfort. He was fine again after that. Just be very attentive and maybe tempt him with his favorite treat or two. So sorry for your sudden loss. Been there many times and it never gets easier. :(

Short hair s/b no problem. Our longer haired guy got some dreadlocks. I spend 2 weeks sneaking up on him while he slept & cutting thru each dreadlock. Eventually they got short enough that he did the final pull out himself. Bald spots fill in in time. Brush daily esp during hot weather.
