In some states, the dealer needs to get your written permission before they can legally put their sticker on your car.
@chipblock28545 жыл бұрын
I have made it part of the deal for years. If they don't want to remove it I find another dealer. One time I said if you don't remove it I want 500 dollars taken off for advertising your dealership. It wa promptly removed.

After recently buying a truck with dealer advertising on the tailgate, I scoured the web for a safe way to remove it. Found this video, bought all the supplies, and ended up only needing the sunshine and the plastic razorblade. Once the edge came up, the lettering came off with a gentle pull using my fingers. I would try this first if you are uber paranoid about using chemicals. I had my rag and lacquer remover all ready to go.. and didn't even need it. Thank you for the post @sweet project cars!

Great tip. thanks for sharing. Now, for those heat gun users, be careful not to hold the gun to close and too long on the paint because too much heat could damage it by causing a blister. I hope this would help.
@SweetProjectCars6 жыл бұрын
You’re very correct paul when using a heat gun it does take a little bit of commonsense keep it moving don’t hold it in one spot and it does not take very much heat for those stickers to finally start coming off if you get your fingers to close you’ll find out you did real quick like LOL

I have always told the dealer to take the sticker off because I am not giving them free advertising or they can knock $2000 off the price or I am walking away. I have received both deals over the years. If they knock down the price, I go home and take it off myself!

Jay are very welcome my friend that’s some funny stuff I must say, women and their hair Dryers my wife and her hair dryer have more issues than you can imagine she’ll use it for two or three months and then say she needs a new one because it’s not blowing air out so I go in and take the filter thing off the back clean out the lint, garbage, hair, and epidermal layers out of it put it back on and I can pretty much guarantee you the next day she will say that her hair dryer is working 10 times better not knowing I have been cleaning it out for her one day I will tell her but right now I’m just having a lot of fun with it. Oh and I didn’t tell you I told her the first time that the hairdryer was blowing slower because I had turn the electrical power down on the house to save money so now when her hair dryer does that again she tells me to turn the power back up :-)

Oh, now you tell me! Here's a little anecdote. I bought a bank auction big red Ford F150 Supercrew that was originally that owned by a glove salesman. "The Glove Doctor, "How's your glove life?" in huge yellow letters was displayed around the sides and tailgate. I tried and tried to get the larger decals off, eventually I got off the "G" on the car. I drove it around like that. I loved it,got so many thumbs up, but my wife wasn't so happy. Had to bring it to an auto specialist, he got rid of my love problem.

Based on the advice from other vids, I tried the hairdryer method because it seemed the simplest, and I don't own a heat gun. Worked just fine, so perhaps it depends on how hot your (or your wife's) hairdryer will get. But I've only had my new car for 2 weeks, so perhaps the age of the decal had something to do with it as well.

A whole lot easier than it used to be. Dealer badges used to be made out of chromed pot metal with spikes on the back side that perforated the sheet metal with One Way sheetmetal nuts holding them on. For stickers, pinstripping and trim adhesive I use a 3M stripe off wheel.easy and quick, l like them. Side note: don't use the wheel on painted plastic You'll wish you hadn't thought of it.
@davidcantwell24895 жыл бұрын
@David Goans Yeah should have thrown that in there. The wheels are designed for catalyzed urethane only, not old school organic lacquers. But like any new to you paint and body techniques, develop your technique on a old Fender, hood or the like before trying it out on a can't mess this up, only have one shot at this, piece of work.

Funny story, I bought a used Honda Odyssey from one of the local dealerships, they had their sticker on the tailgate. I was beginning to look around for ways to remove it (this was about 2 years ago) and third day into looking, it started peeling off by itself. I slowly peeled it the rest of the way off. Either the glue was garbage or they didn't apply it right as it virtually came off in my hand with one gentle tug on the corner that was peeling.

Whenever I buy a new car, I just instruct the dealer not to put any stickers on my car. Works every time. Should any dealer ignore my request, I would simply make them remove any offending stickers before driving off. Alternatively, I would tell the dealer he has to sign me up to an endorsement deal to advertise his place of business. I don't do anything for free!
@SweetProjectCars6 жыл бұрын
That’s a great idea I think they should pay people to have their advertising on the back of the car have a great day

Also for vintage cars if you don’t want to damage the rubbers use fabric softener. I got the idea from wallpaper removal. I didn’t want to use solvents or heat gun . So I soaked fabric softener on cosmetic facial pads and placed them in a row on the stickers for half a day and use a blade. The gum off the glass with the remaining pads. And clean up with auto glass cleaner. I did this because I couldn’t find anything gentle on rare window rubbers. Previous owners put stickers those horrible foil ones that were sun baked and over 20 years old, so they were stuck fast.
@celticgypsy60675 жыл бұрын
I hope this helps because the ones on my car were put right up against the rubbers on the rear window, where a heat gun or solvents would damage them. It seems to be a common place for stickers on the edge.

Will this method work on thicker vinyl items? I have a Mustang with vinyl racing stripes that are much thicker than the decals, they’re older and look like garbage. I want to remove them and repaint the car.

@SweetProjectCars6 жыл бұрын
LopSop Doy what country are you in as I am showing it available in the UK and in the united states?
@lopsopdoy76226 жыл бұрын
Sweet Project Cars I am in the US and the link works for me. The problem is that the product is ‘out of stock’ so I cannot purchase it
@SweetProjectCars6 жыл бұрын
LopSop Doy ok this is the only one we use other than the one that is out of stock amzn.to/2ODuaI2 or you can get it in the gallon size amzn.to/2M9u4pO which is the best value and if you are working on cars it will be the perfect amount
