How to remove Mercedes W204 Roof Windshield Trim/Strips.

Another common issue on the W204 is the pealing of the clear coat on the roof trim strips. it looks real crappy once it starts happening. I can only imagine how much a new set cost, so here is how i took mine off, sprayed it gloss black and put it back on came out suprisingly nice and just cost a can of spray and a sheet of sandpaper.

Also note the strips are metal and not plastic so dont bend them too much or they will just be trashed.

Hi. I have the same issue with my car. The coating is peeling off. Can we played let's me know where I can get both right & left hand side trimmings ? PS: I don't to have to pay thousands of Rands to replace them. Or can I take them off & paint them myself. Do I need to repaint them with black paint & once dry, spray them again with a clear coat. Would love to hear your comments. Txs Dave

I've the glass roof.. ..the front trims are same length to width of glass.. Is it still same process..? Cos I've (2mm) rubber on both sides of plastic trim touching windshield & window frame..

Ooooof i cannot answer there i know the sides are the same also just pushed in bur for the front i dont know rather seak someone that did it with the glass roof you dont wanna get that wrong there.

No worries yes its a bit hectic out there and i try and fix this car as much as i can i literally just finished putting in a sideshaft oil seal in my differential earlier. Coz i broke a diff a month ago so that was a whole mission.

where can I get the plastic tool to take the trim off? also did you take all of the peeling off or you just painted over the peeling?

I got it from Takealot, but i saw someone just pull it off but they start from the windscreen so ima go ahead and say you dont need that tools. Well i peeled most of the peeling paint off and then sanded smooth what i couldnt get off. I just sprayed over it all. Its not perfect but looks much better than before.

Simple go for it they are metal and clips are good so solong you gentle you should be fine.

What? Did it break? Agh no man it can be removed from the front first too but the clips have to be pulled by the removal tool. Or clipped out.
