i just did this in my entry way. i had to grind on the dust shroud to fit on my m18 grinder, but it worked great after that. i hooked directly to my shop vac and had nearly no dust. i had to blow out my filter twice though. i did manage to make some divots in the sub floor but its pretty minimal and i already had thin set filler for a few other places so i'll patch it up.

Any advice on making sure you aren't digging into the subfloor with the grinding wheel? The dust shroud has those springs on it and moves around. For context, I'm removing mortar to put hardwood flooring down.
@MrYoucandoityourself4 жыл бұрын
Good question! Just grinding without hard pushing down. Mortar very soft for grinder.

How do u prevent mortar from going into subfloor panel joints? They are supposed to be open for expansion and contraction
@MrYoucandoityourself Жыл бұрын
I filled up joints with caulk.
@GXTOLX Жыл бұрын
Can u put tape over joints then mortar?
@MrYoucandoityourself Жыл бұрын
Yes, you can. But you have to sealed this tape over with caulk, because when you put compound, tape will peel off. I have this experience.
@GXTOLX Жыл бұрын
@MrYoucandoityourself thank you. What if u dont mortar up to joints and leave a space around then and then apply the ditra? Shouldn't that leave gap open still?

I have similar grinder and same vacuum . 2 cyclones makes too much suction loss , you have a lot of dust escaping.
@floored31456 жыл бұрын
Just trying to help you out , those dewalt vacuums don't need cyclones they can fill up completely with fine dust before emptying .

Try running a commercial air scrubber while doing that next time. It will keep dust from going all throughout the house.plastic off doorway to rest of house and run flex duct exhaust from unit to window. Creates a vacuum in worksite.👍

How much do companies charge to remove tile from subfloor per sqft
@MrYoucandoityourself3 жыл бұрын
Hi Ryan, companies charge by the hour, for example from $65 to 120 per hour. Or by the job from the experience. Not so far, I removed entrance tile 35 s.f and grind down mortar - price this part of the job $300. Is it help?
