Before answering your comment I had to go and search this up to make sure I could respond correctly. You are of course totally right, the confusion I now have come to realise is that the way I done it is the best procedure for fitting and removing jumper cables. I really should have realised and corrected it, at least as a message in editing. I trained and for a little while worked in the motor trade as a mechanic as a younger man, we were never taught to do the battery in any specific order, just not to let a spanner touch both terminals at once. But of course also that you do not want the positive to touch any metal parts, especially with the negative still attached. Doing it as I did in the video is otherwise safe as long as you make sure it does not touch a metal surface, but much more so if you wrap the terminal before setting it aside. Thanks for pointing out my mistake, I will pin this to make sure people become aware and hopefully understand how I made this mistake.

@@HalfdeadRider genuinely- props to you for taking feedback, going back to research it, and coming back to admit that you were wrong. We've all made this exact mistake at one point or another.

It doesn't matter dude 🤦♂️
@MrGrim199610 ай бұрын
@@staezione Actually it does, if you take the positive off first you risk arcing if the terminal is to touch anything metal, taking the negative off first stops the risk of that happening and also stops the risk of causing damage to the electrical system if it was to arc/continue to arc.

Sorry about the wind in places, I will try to use my mic used for motovlogs next time :)

Nice to see it done first though right? 👍 Just don't let any terminals touch any metal part of the bike either. You can always put a bit of rag or something over them while they are off.

Brilliant tutorial mate, easy Peezy lemon squeezy... see your message on wind noise, no bother mate, it happens 👌🏻

Thanks mate glad you liked it, it is an easy job but one that needs doing right too. I knew someone who had one blow up in his face years back, it paid off in the end though lol. People new to it will benefit more, especially if they own this model, as you saw its placed in an awkward spot. As for the wind, I'll try and use my mic for other vids when out working on the bike.

Great tip for removing the battery!
@HalfdeadRider4 жыл бұрын
Thanks, just take not of the pinned comment and my reply to it as I did do the procedure slightly wrong, but as you see it does not cause an issue here, perfectly safe still as long as the poss terminal does not touch any metal while the negative terminal is still connected.

Do you have any idea where the battery ground wire is run to and can you get to it without removing anything
@HalfdeadRider4 жыл бұрын
Sorry mate I don't know, never needed to, I would guess it's not very long and connected to the frame. Good luck with it.

I had a similar alarm on my old bike they drain the battery over time. I wired in a secret kill/off switch so when the bike was not being used and i had secure locks on it at home i could turn it off.
@HalfdeadRider6 жыл бұрын
You are right, but it is a very small amount of drain. If you use your bike regularly enough it will not be enough to become an issue. My battery drained due to using it less, over a two month period I went out only a few times for very short rides, not enough to keep the battery topped up. Thanks Steve.

I hope on my next bike the battery is as easy to remove as this. On the current one it's a pain in the ass. I'd rather have the air filter more difficult to access than the battery because you don't need to access that as often as a battery
@HalfdeadRider6 жыл бұрын
It is easy with those tabs on it, as you saw. If it did not have those, you pretty much need to take the tank off to get hold of it to lift it out because it sits slightly under the tank bracket and there being nowhere to get a grip on it otherwise. I'm sure some are much tougher to get to though.
@easternmenace6 жыл бұрын
Yep, mine is in front of the swing arm so even with the rear wheel off it's a pain in the ass to take off the battery housing and then to disconnect the battery and wiggle it through the wheel if that's on
@HalfdeadRider6 жыл бұрын
Damnn, that is a pain, my Keeway had the battery in a similar place, but it had a side panel to remove and get to it.

@@HalfdeadRider Just noticed, my apologies. My only comment it that it is the earth, which is not always the negative terminal, some late 60's and earlier cars and bikes were a +ve rather than a -ve earth, as is the standard now a days. I've seen some people caught out, but thank you for a useful video. I have to remove friends battery from her er6 so will use your tip.
