Now to change the tire you must cut the axle out on the flat tire side, put the new one on then weld the axle back on! Ahaha

Don't cut anything. Look under the bumper with a flashlight at the lock mechanism and remove the "c" clip with a small screwdriver. Push the lock out, the little piece with the arms on it will slide off. Now you can lower your spare the right way with the rods that come with the jack. Spray WD40 in the lock, free it up and reassemble. Takes 5 minutes if that.

I have a 2004 F150 and the ignition key wouldn't work. I sprayed some WD40 in the front and the back (under the bumper) and let it sit for 20 minutes and then smacked the back of it with a hammer a few times. It was a little rusty! I then put the ignition key into the cylinder and it turned really easy.

After several you tube videos, then realizing I didn't have any thing long enough to cut the cable I said screw... then it dawned on me, don't screw it 'turn it'. After about 20 mins of rotating the tire clock wise and counter clock wise the cables frayed little by little until the tire dropped :) When it dropped I saw that I was not the first to attempted getting this tire off... along with the tire fell a 12" sawz all blade...lol

On the backside of the keyed lock set there is a relatively light gauge metal clasp that can be easily cut off with a grinder or even broken off with a cold chisel, small pry bar, etc. It'll obviously ruin the lock but it's still better than ruining your spare tire cable/mount.

Use the ignition key that came with the vehicle. You don’t need to disassemble key cylinder with key installed spray penetrating lube on the metal U bolt then with channel locks pliers gently turn the U bolt 1/4 turn clockwise. you will be able to pull the cylinder out of the bumper. With the locking cylinder out of the bumper spray penetrating lube on the U-bolt free up the corrosion.

what year was this truck... I saw a fuel pump module in it and i can see mine.. I have a 2003 f150 lariat... and my fuel gage not working someone told me to change the module but I didnt si one

Don't cut the cable!!! Cut one ear off the tee that the cable runs thru which holds the tire up. The tee can then be worked back thru the hole in the wheel. Remove the two bolts in the cable assembly which holds the tire up and you can remove the assembly from the truck. Weld the pieces back together and the assembly is good as new. While you have it out, take a pair of plyers and pull the stem for the key out of the cable hoist housing, which leaves a rectangular slot, You can then weld in something to reduce the opening size to accept the hooked end of the jack handle and eliminate the Mickey Mouse system Ford designed. Even if you have the key, a little dirt and you will never lower the tire. If you have the key, you can pull the stem out of the hoist assembly, weld the key to the stem leaving a male rectangle on one end which can then be inserted into the remaining female rectangle on the housing assembly when you need to lower the tire. They pay people to design junk like this?

After being stranded on a country road with a flat tire because the spare tire wouldn't drop. When I got home I a took a grinder to the plate holding the tire the tire on. It took one minute and the tire was on the ground, it now rides in the box of the truck.

i did it without cutting...i attached vice grips to the metal piece sticking out under the spring that's holding the tire up...just turn the wrench counter clockwise until the cable snaps...the cable becomes untwined going counter clockwise,, then they begin to snap as you keep cranking the fucker...just make sure you have something supporting the tire for when the cable snaps

Stop...... Look at the lock from the back of the bumper. There is a small clip on the back of the lock. Just use a flathead to pop that c- clip out and the whole lock will fall right out. You don't have to cut or ruin anything. That's pretty stupid.

I am trying a different method where I do not have to buy a new $200 mechanism to hold the tire up under the body - keep looking on youtube for other solutions. He cut the wire

this is the dumbest thing I have seen. You get a screw driver and pry the lock off from under the truck and then slide in your tire iron. no need to cut the asy off
